Well, that about summed it up. I have a DLAB of 132 and secret clearance. What MOS can I reenlist for tha has a guaranteed slot at DLI? I care more about that than I do about the actual job, though obviously I'd rather enjoy both.

35P is the only MOS that absolutely, without question, guarantees language training. You MIGHT be able to get language training as a 35N, 35M, 35L, or 37F; but make sure it is in your contract.
As a prior 11B, reclassed to 35P; you will have certain advantages. Your "real Army" experience will make you more effective at understanding what you are translating, and you will be better able to train your Soldiers in their warrior tasks. Also, 35Ps can be assigned with SF on the 75th Ranger Regiment; your Infantry experience would be a definite plus there.

38B Civil Affairs Specialist
There's a few documents you have to get together, and you might need to be airborne qualified (or willing to be) and as an E5-E6 you can reclass and be sent to a civil affairs unit. (the units, like the school are at ft. Bragg)
As active duty, it looks like you're basically guaranteed language training (the recruiter I'm talking to says you have to compete for it in the reserves) and based on your score it looks like there's four categories (though above 100 it's Chinese, Arabic, or other such calibre languages..)
If you're getting out, reserves seems like a much better deal especially with the frequent deployments, but either way should get you there. (I'm prior service with some IRR time left and I'm going into the reserves, and they have a CA unit in my state. It sounds like considering that you're prior service, plus that DLI is the whole reason you're signing up, you can get slotted for it after AIT- just get it in writing (sure you heard that before) |
