Decision to make about the army national guard?

I have been in the military for the past 8 years and I have 8 months left on my contract. I have been deployed to iraq/kuwait for a total of 18 months as a truck driver. I hated that so i then transferred to the public affairs as a photojournalist and have been doing it for a year. It has been a great experience and I have had a lot of work published. I was suppose to go to dinfos (army training for journalists) when i first transferred a year ago but they didnt have any spots and now it is getting close to the end of my contract. After I come back they are going to promote me to Staff Sgt. I feel that it is uncomfortable to go to the training and get promoted and then tell them I am getting out in 2 months. I feel like I have 3 options and do not know what to do? Option A. Go to the training because it would be a good experience, save money, look good on a resume. Option B. tell them I am planning on getting out in January so they should send someone else in my place because training slots are hard to get and promote someone else. Option C. re-enlist for another year to see how it goes. What would you do? I feel like I want to get out of the military to experience life without the obligation and commitment. I also feel like I am not the military type I never really have been but I have dealt with it because of the school benefits and I have had some cool traveling experiences. One reason I dont want to tell them my plans is because I do not want them to pressure me to re- enlist or give me a hard time at drill in case they feel I am of no use of them since i am going to be getting out soon. I also feel that if I was in their shoes I would want the Soldier to tell me so I could plan around it. I want to make a decision so it no longer consumes my thoughts...any suggestions?

I forgot to mention that I am graduating with my Bachelors degree in Journalism so using the military for school benefits is over unless i want to get my masters. That is why I want to get out of the military to see what I can get with my degree but at the same time the economy is not the best so who knows what I can do with that. I have thought about joining the air national guard because they do tend to use more common sense.

It's very possible that they will not lock you in for schools or promotion until you have extended your contract at least a year.

get what you can out of the army: go to the school, get another thing on your resume, then sign out on terminal leave the day you get back. just my opinion though. make sure theres not a mandatory MSO time after your done with the school.

You could always join the Air National Guard if you want great school benefits plus you can complete your tech school with the AF. Also the work and deployment schedule is a lot less demanding than the Army. I believe prior service only have to sign a 3 year comment and you will recieve at least a $5,000 sign on bonus.

Go to DINFOS and get the MOS 46Q.

Then, when you get back, you will owe a year extension after graduation to fulfill your obligation from going to school.
DINFOS entails an additional 1 year service obligation after completing school, which also is mandatory after accepting the SSG rank. That will be a very good year for you- trust me. Plus, you'll have close to ten years in by then, and that is very good should you decide to stay, or come back in later. then you have two MOS's to choose from should you decide to return later.

You can reevaluate at that time, plus you'll have the DINFOS experiece, and a good taste of PA work.
