"God Bless" our people in service. I think you should have kept your opinion to yourself and told him Thanks for the job they are doing for us. |

The Erudite Troll Zone is not telling the full story;
"Did I ask the wrong question when I was talking with this United states Marine?
He told me this morning (At the Big Boy Restaurant) he was going to Iraq in Dec. I ask(ed) "Why are you going to Iraq when Iraq did not do 9-11 and is no threat to the USA".
At that stage the Marine said "Hey you are that "Erudite Troll" and punched my lights out and when I awoke it was lying in a dumpster at the back of The Big Boy with a Chili Burger wedged in my rectal passage. . . .. woooooiee Chili Burns......!!!!" |

You are entitled to your opinion, but this isn't a very tactful question to ask a Marine ready for deployment. |

My oldest son is in Army Special Forces. He went to Afghanistan 8 times, and has since pulled 3 tours in Iraq. He now speaks Arabic, and likes the people very much. He notes that over 20 terrorist training camps, many documented as specifically run by Al Queda, were found in Iraq. He notes that the Kurdish people of northern Iraq were in regular danger of genocide from Saddam Hussein's regime. He says, 9-11 having demonstrated incontrovertibly that the terrorists WOULD come after us, that he serves in Iraq so he does not have to get his children gas masks for their birthdays. The Marine may feel the exact same way, you think? |

Ouch... That would buuuuuurrrn. The others are right. The Marines don't have any control over where they are sent. Whether you have personal feelings against the war or not, you should never, NEVER say something like that to the troops who actually have to go over there and fight. That is just stupid. |
|

Yes you did ask the wrong question. Our men and women in the military have no control over where they are sent or what they are asked to do. We should support them no matter what.
That question should have been asked of our government. |

The marine goes where he is told... its his job not like they WANT to be there... |

Fascinating illustration of human behavior: This question was a transparent fabrication of events that never unfolded designed specifically to elicit emotional response from readers and participants on Yahoo! Answers. Hey look, it worked on me too. Congrats Trollface--you got me. |

And you know that Iraq was not involved how? You know that somewhere in that freeking desert there isn't a bunch of chemical weapons or atomic weapons. What makes you such an expert on Iraq? |
|

Even though your question is a valid one it was rather insensitive of you to ask him this. Remember he is going to war, and he does not make the rules just follows them. |

You again!? For someone who claims they were in the military you of all people should know better. You are such a fraud and fake and just love to try and stir up trouble.
You should have done the proper think and support the troop. The military gives orders to follow and he is doing the right thing. |

Hes not politician to ask him this ...better you should told him we here back home all think in him as hero . |

yes you did ... it was not his decision to go to iraq, those questions should be directed to the man who is ruining our country. the men of service are fighting over there and you need to respect them, for without them you wouldn't have the luxuries you have today. |

I think that questioning someones decision, such a hugely important and personal decision, is offensive.
It's also insulting to reduce someones decision to put their life on the line to a political ploy. This person made a commitment that requires dedication, integrity and bravery and you reduce his commitment to a political arguement. Tasteless, absolutely tasteless.
How inconsiderate to equate stupid and patriotic. Man there are some amazing people in the world today without even the guts to examine their motives and actions. Someone is putting his life at risk for something he believes in and people respond by calling him stupid and patriotic? Like being patriotic is an insult! Amazing, absolutely amazing. And in the same breath people will ask "what is wrong with America". Look no further than a mirror. There is a serious lack of respect for individuals in this country and for the efforts that people make, with good intentions, to keep this country a safe and prosperous place to live. Look to yourself for the problems with this country. |

The marine doesnt have a choice about where he goes. He is deployed where the military instructs him to go. Even if he agreed with you, he still would have to go to Iraq. If you wanted to say anything it should be" I hope you return home safe". No matter what your political sentiments, it's always better to wish someone a good and safe life. What you said to him was the same as telling a Catholic not to go to his church on Sunday because the The Baptist religion is the only correct religion. Each of us must do what we are compelled to do even if others dont understand our reasoning or agree with it. |

Do you have to work to be that ignorant or are you a natural talent?
By the way is this what the liberals mean when they say they support the troops? |
|

Again, another liberal idiot trying to prove a point with little or no education of whats going on. You really don't get it! I'm glad the government keeps a close tab on your kind-the biggest threat to the country is you people. |

oh... I think you offended that US Marine. That Marine's duty to tour in Iraq does not have anything to do with his personal opinions or choices.
Your question insinuated that the Marine should consider betraying the call to duty, and dishonoring the Marine Corps and any ideal of patriotism.
Furthermore, your statment about Iraqi involvment is insubstantial. The military has levels of secrecy that you are probably not aware. Our military service members already devote their lives to this sort of "Blind Leadership", not knowing what really happens at the Top Secret levels. To hear a countryman (or woman) whose ideals and freedoms we defend with our lives (regardless if it is physically, such as dying, or idealistically with our lifestyles), that question may have disregarded any respect for who that Marine is or they stand for.
I wish the question would have been asked in a manner that was less accusing and more sympathetic. Perhaps, "Do you have any reservations about deploying to Iraq?"

Sounds like you're a liar.
Marines and military personnel in general are not going to tell somebody they meet in "Big Boy" about deployment dates.
Knowing you though, it would be more like your M.O. to try and get a Marines phone number for a date. |

Not really his place to answer, ask the president. He probably just started wondering the same thing. I doubt he found it insulting or anything, just didn't know how to answer. |

Ask your government, military personnel do not like wars cause they are the ones who have to fight in them |

again, boy you need to leave those jar heads alone. They are like elephants, they never forget.
One time you will ask a question to make them cry and you may find out what a marine is capable of |
