Greed of what?
I know I was not greedy when I joined. Neither was my husband.
I'm from N. CA, which base are you talking about? What city are you from? I'm from Red Bluff. |

First thing I thought was "I'm not touching this with a 10 foot pole"
But I'll answer anyway. Enlisted soldiers make very little. I doubt it was greed.
Prepare to be flamed to death. |

No I joined the Marines to fight for the people of this country not for money. |

Not greed.
They did it simply because - on their worst day - they are better people than you can ever hope to be. |

GREED?!?! Are you sh*tt*ng me?! Joining our all volunteer military knowing your butt will be shipped off to war is the most SELFLESS act a person can make.
EDIT: Mustangs aren't exactly the hottest, most expensive car out there, just FYI. They earn an HONEST living and pay for what they own, I don't see where you're coming from or what your problem is?? |

Why do you say greed? Because you think it is a good paying job for the work involved?
Perhaps.... I don't know
Is that bad?
I'm sure patriotism and a desire for a better world for our children plays a major role. |

No. It's a nice bonus, but everyone I know that re enlisted and got their bonuses would have re enlisted with out the money. They had already decided to make the military their career. |

Absolutely N O T, these MEN and WOMEN enlist into the U. S. Military because they feel a higher calling to DEFEND the
USA against ALL ENEMIES foreign and domestic and are NOT in it for the money.

I don't think so. Even including bonuses, lower enlisted persons do not make very much money. Most bonuses require several years of commitment, and are given for military occupations that don't necessarily equate to better pay in the private sector.
For the most part, you can make more money after working a few years in the private sector than you do in the military. You can make a LOT more as a private contractor in Iraq or Afghanistan than as a soldier in either of these dangerous places.
So I don't think greed is behind troop enlistments. |

if greed is a motivating factor then they missed out on it because the pay is very low. |

i dont think so..my husband has had one bonus...and it was less than two grand...so some no...others yes..but my husband has been in alot longer than most of those people driving the mustangs...but then again we have four cars and like to live a nice lifestyle...but if he were a civilian..we would llike the same things..so how can you call them greedy? i dont see a whole slew of people knocking on the doors trying to get in do you? |

Different people enlist for different reasons.....
Some do it for money
Some do it for adventure
Some do it because every other male in their family did it
Some do it out of desperation to get out of their environment
Some do it to help support their pregnant girlfriend
Some do it out of pure patriotism
The list goes on.... |

Greed has always existed.
The Republican mantra of government staying out of the business of regulating corporate America has finally proved the fallacy of that philosophy.
The Bush Administration has looked the other way while financial institutions have leveraged themselves to death. Unfortunately their demise is pulling the rest of us down with them.
Ironic that Bush's incompetent minions are now looking to fix the problem with stronger regulations and oversight.
Thanks for closing the barn door after all the animals have fled, George. |

Who gets the car when the kid dies in combat, does the insurance pay it off? |

I heard they get good deals on cars, and they are young and want a nice car. People join the military for money, benefits and other things, but they could probably make more money doing nasty things like drug dealer, politician, investment banker. |
