Obama did what every politician does, he sets general guidelines as recommended by his military commanders and leaves local decisions to his commander on the spot.

He didn't handle the situation badly, he didn't handle it at all, he left it to the military. If he did anything else, he would be the fool you seem to think he is.

Obama has done well to order to intervene only in cases of immediate danger to the hostage.
But it has done so well the commander to order the action of the U.S. snipers seals, because the Somali pirates were becoming nervous and had pointed their guns at the back of 'hostage prisoner.

He was in immediate danger the moment when they started shooting when he made his escape attempt.
When they failed to turn the Captain over they sealed their fates.

Uh, President Obama is Commander in Chief over all the armed forces. So the order of shoot to kill came from Obama. A Navy Seal would never act on their own whims and wishes. Sorry to disappoint you.

Obama isn't always the guy who calls all the shots; he isn't in full charge of the military all the time, you must realize that there are Congress that too calls shots; they both can over-veto each other all day until 2/3 votes wins from both the Senate and the House. Obama doesn't have to "not authorize" anything...if Congress says to jump, we jump, with or without consent from the POTUS.
