Actually, this is a true story, but you have a couple facts a little off.

Gerald Bull, a Canadian gun designer and somewhat of a quack, specialized in building large barrels, sometimes 100's of feet in legth, that were built into the sides of hills. Using rocket aided projectiles, his guns could hit targets 20 or 30 miles away, with fairly good accuracy and a high rate of fire.

Unfortunately, since the guns were unable to be moved, a single airstrike could take them out of action.

He was working with Iraq to produce a gun capable of hitting Israel when the first gulf war began and the parts could no longer be shipped into Iraq.

Dr. Bull was later assasinated, some say by the Israeli Mossad for his work with Iraq.

He was NOT South African....(see the guy's answer above mine)

what i can't get over is how people claim that just because sadam and his terrorists were able to hide their weapons of mass destruction, that means that iraq could never have had weapons of mass destruction. sadam had already used WMDs on thousands of people, and helped terrorism's rampage.

if a man rapes a young girl, then tells everyone he doesn't rape her now, that doesn't mean he didn't rape her; likewise, if iraq had weapons of mass destruction, then shipped them all to terrorists so the CIA doesn't find them, that doesn't mean iraq wasn't an ally to terror, and a risk to world peace, before the US lead liberation.

It is well known that Iraq was gaining destructive power, and it could have gotten out of hand as was the case in Lebanon.

I believe you are refering to the "Super Cannon" designed by Geral Bull, a former South African weapons designer. From my understanding it was never completed and Bull himself was assinated. The cannon was designed to reach targets in Israel and Turkey and could lauch chemical and atomic munitions. It was never designed to hit targets as far and the United States.

Choppes is correct he was Canadian. My apologes. It has been some time since I had done any reading on the man and confused his nationality. He did have dealings with the South African government during the 80's and I believe that is where the idea of him being South African entered my head. I am sorry or the error.

too much external friction on the round itself caused by the rifling inside the barrel. It would never make it and the next time they tried to fire a round, the gas pressure would cause a massive explosion somewhere in the middle
