That's an odd question: we are, after all, just doing our job. But I have personally been thanked by people I was just meeting, after being introduced as a person in the military. It caught me by surprise, and I was appreciative of their regards. I didn't really know how to respond - I'm just a guy doing a job, I'm not answering any higher calling, just doing my part.
Now that I'm retired, I try to look out for the people who are still serving, and let them know that in spite of what they read in the paper, most Americans support their efforts, and really appreciate the sacrifices they make to keep our country and way of life safe and secure. Let's not mince words, the gulf war is about our need for oil, and they are over there protecting that. I like to be able to drive my car, so I'm for it.
The individual soldier, sailor, or airman gets lost in the bigger political questions - but they are the ones laying their life on the line every day. I buy them a drink whenever possible.
Cheers! (ETC Retired) |

I pray daily for our soldiers to be safe, I thank them at every opportunity for all that they do to help protect our way of life.
If you wish to contact a soldier who is deployed overseas then please write to this organization http://soldiersangels.org/ they will put you in contact with men and women who very much appreciate a kind word, a package from home no matter if they they know you or not. It lets them know that we care about them.

I'm just a kid, but yeah! I know a few, because my dad used to be a Marine. I know a bunch of people who have relatives in Iraq, and I thank them and pray for them whenever I can. |

Actually I sent care packages over to soldiers that I didn't even know as a way of saying thanks. I would make them blankets even to send over. Now I just have a group of soldiers that I do that for because my friend is now serving overseas and so I try to take care of her group as best I can. |

I am not sure that I agree with this war or that we were in any real harm from Saddam Hussein but I will remember tonight to pray for all the soldiers and that they make it safely home to their families. I will also make sure to thank the ones who I come in contact for doing their jobs so courageously. |

every soldier that fights for our country deserves great respect and gratitude for the services they performed. they went and fought to show their patriotism and support for their country. and deserve all the thanks a person can give for their services.and most importantly they fought for our freedom. |

Protect me? Well, no I don't feel protected by the fighting in Iraq. But I do have a very strong respect and pray for their safety. How unselfish of them to give their time and comfort to fight for what they believe. Those are heroes. |

I did. I actually sent support letters a couple years ago to soldiers i didn't know and corresponded regularly with a few for a while. Actually, I ended up falling in love with one of them and we're together now! Don't get me wrong, it shouldn't be used as a dating service and that was not my intention when i sent the letters. This just happened for me...and I'll be the first to admit it's weird...but I'm very happy now, and tell him constantly how proud I am of him and I pray for his safety every day. |
