Do Americans honestly believe they won the Second World War and 'saved' Europe from Nazi Germany???

Honestly, I'm tired of hearing Americans on the Internet going off on one about how they 'saved' Europe in the Second World War.

In truth, the British, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand, French and especially Soviet forces had been fighting for years before America even joined in. These are the countries which won the war. America helped, yes, but they didn't 'save' anyone.

Well said..They were definatly not our Heros...

They were fighting AND LOSING before the US entered.
By December 1941 the Germans controlled Paris, Rotterdam, Warsaw, Belgrade, the Jersey Islands, Copenhagen, Oslo, Minsk, Athens. Gee the Allies were doing a bang up job without the USA!
When the allies did fight they were probabaly using American-made weapons, wearing American-made boots and eating american-made rations.

The Brits did a number on the Nazis in North Africa, the Russians in Eastern Europe, WE (The Good old U.S. of A. put a boot up their a$$ in Western Europe, and jointly (I think the word is Allied) WE ALL won, (even the germans, in the long run?). Now... would you like to move to the pacific to play ? That was also part of WW II....

Leogirl0804
Well dude, Russia didn't get involved until 1941. If I recall my history that is when we got involved. If you are going to talk history at least try to be in the ballpark. England was already talking surrender because they couldn't get us in the war. So while we didn't win it outright we certainly turned the tide and that you cannot deny.

You are so right! Those forces had been fighting for years before the States joined the war. And STILL, they came close to losing it until the US stepped in and SAVED you!!! I've got a dead uncle to prove it! He died liberating France after they capitulated and worked with the Nazis! You may be tired of hearing the truth, but even people like Winston Churchill believed that without the US, you'd be writing this in German now--if you were allowed to live at all.

Mike W
I'm sure someone else mentioned this, but American involvement on the war didn't start with the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Lend-Lease act provided war materials to Great Britain, France, USSR, China and other allied nations which allowed them to continue fighting. I'm not going to say that we won the war single handedly, but we contributed a bit more than you think.

Er you obviously don't know your history.

Which country sent food, oil, machinery etc to throughot the war

which country risked life and limb doing that

which country kept supplying these goods even when we we're bankrupt

which country wrote off our debts after the war

which country provided the 100's of thousands of troops and equipment for d day and beyond

yes - it was the USA. Without them we'd be part of the 3rd Reich still, if we we're lucky

so thank your lucky stars they did this for us

Its not a matter of faith - Its a matter of fact.

Fact: America doesn't get involved in WW2 and the Allies LOSE!!!!!!

Virtually no historian on earth will say otherwise.

Be tired all you want. The field general the Brits had, Montgomery, was constantly snacthing defeat from the jaws of victory....if it weren't for a real general, Patton, were would Europe be right now? I will give you Brits something, though. You put up a hellacious defense of merry old England over the skies of the isles. You are right that we didn't 'do it' alone, but we were the major factor in the grand scheme of things....

Just as it is true that America didn't win WWII on her own, it is also true that we couldn't have fought at all or even survived without Lend Lease.

Have a nice day

if it was not for the us those nations would not have succeed.

even stalin knew america had to open a second front to save russia and his tired soldiers and other armed forces.

remember this, you are not goos stepping, saying heil hitler, flying a swastika due to america's intervening in that war.

If the American had not landed in normandy and relieved the Soviets Germany could have placed all their troops on the Eastern front and beat back the Soviets. French troops were completely defeated and many (Vichy french) even cooperated with the Germans. Americans supplied the Soviets keeping them from complete collapse. Russia was a great factor in winning world war 11 but in the end we found out we probably should have been fighting them since they have several thousand nuculear missiles aimed at us as I type. New Zealand, France, Canadiaen were never a real factor in war. Son, you been reading bad history or smoking some bad dope. Viet Nam vet infantry 101st Airborne Division 68/69.

Well, I've never claimed we SAVED Europe, but if you look at the numbers, we certainly did provide a LARGE amount of help both in men and material and money. I will NEVER downplay the service and courage of the UK and USSR.

Lend-Lease- A total of $50.1 billion (equivalent to nearly $700 billion at 2007 prices) worth of supplies were shipped: $31.4 billion to Britain, $11.3 billion to the Soviet Union, $3.2 billion to France.

Only about 92 locomotives were produced in the USSR during the entire war. The US supplied 1,981 locomotives to the Soviets (91% of their trains were therefore US).

Likewise, the Soviet air force was almost completely dependent on US supplies of very high octane aviation fuel.

Although most Red Army tank units were equipped with Soviet-built tanks, their logistical support was provided by hundreds of thousands of high-quality US-made trucks. Indeed by 1945 nearly two-thirds of the truck strength of the Red Army was US-built.

US supplies of telephone cable, aluminium, and canned rations were also critical.

Europe WAS conquered before the USA entered the war... Regarding your "fighting for years before America even joined in." comment: the UK and France entered combat in June of 1940 and the Soviets in June of 1941

So the UK had been fighting for 1.5 years, France fought for 3 months before surrender, and the Soviets for 6 MONTHS prior to the entry of the USA... in neither case does that qualify as YEARS-plural !!

If your tired of hearing about it on the net then stay off the net. That way you wont have to look like a fool trying to rewrite history in your own mind to justify your rediculous opinion.

Only an idiot would give a country that was occupied by the enemy more credit then the country that liberated it and gave much needed support for the war effort.

The U.S didnt fight or win the war singlehanded but we provided the push to change the outcome.

Why the U.S entered the war has no matter in this conversation and is for another. At the time I'm sure the allies really gave 2 sh*ts why we joined.

I am British an very proud of it. it has to be said that without the American intervention after pearl harbour the United Kingdom would probably have been an extension of the German empire. the Americans and the British and all the allied troops suffered countless loses during this terrible war we should not bicker over who did what or who won the war but instead pay tribute to those who did not return to fulfil their hopes and dreams. In the famous words of Winston Churchill " NEVER IN THE FIELD OF HUMAN CONFLICT WAS SO MUCH OWED BY SO MANY TO SO FEW"

Tell ya what, you light in the brain 'Mo! The next time it happens you & the powerful French Army (First to surrender & proud of it!) can do all the fighting solo. Too many American brothers never got to live their lives because the Euro Armies were VERY good at one manuever (Hands up, we surrender!) Remember the "Victory" at Dunkirk? That was a true work of beauty & you fools managed to lose all the French army & their equipment plus a third of the British army & nearly all their equipment-----all without ANY help from America. You're right, you Euro trash don't need any help from the US to screw things up, but if your freedom is on the line again, call the Russians. I'm sure they'd be a big help.

The fate of the second world war was decided by the outcome of Operation Barbarossa. The US saved europe from being entirely under the Soviet bloc. I'm an american, so what the problem is?

have you ever heard of Lend Lease project?

And America is saving your asses today...and you're shitting on them again as usual.

The British Empire had a practically unlimited supply of cheap troops because of their huge population. If the US hadn't joined the war, then maybe it would have lasted 4 or 5 years longer. Saying that the Americans saved the British from the Germans is like saying the British saved the Americans from the Afghans and the Iraqis.
