I mean just to be a regular, enlisted MP. Is it required to have any kind of secret clearance?
Additional Details
by "regular" I meant enlisted, not officer, not CID, etc.

Sorry Smoker there are confidential clearances but to answer the question, yes MP's need at least a confidential clearance or higher depending on your rank. Just to read the SOI required a clearance and as an MP you will be required to read one in order to get the daily frequencies and callsigns for the radio. Good luck to you. |

Yes you will require a Secret Clearance, There is no such thing as a regular MP.
MP's can be doing anything from prison guards to traffic duty to guarding a nuclear missile site. depends on where you are stationed or where you are needed. |

I do believe that all NCO's are required to have a secret clearance. There are certain MOS's that do require a secret clearance, no matter what your rank. For example, you can go to any signal school without a clearance, but if you do not have a clearance, then you cannot be promoted or work in your specialty. There are some signal schools that you cannot attend until you have a clearance. As for a confidential clearance; there is not a confidential clearance per say, but there is an initial background check, that all members of the US Military have had done on them, no matter what they do in the Military. |

Yes Military Police of all branches require Secret Clearance. There are two reasons for this. 1. Your assignment can be to places that require the clearance, such as Guantanamo Bay Cuba Detainee operations. This is under JTF meaning all branches are assigned duty to that location. 2. As an MP you are expected to enforce military rules and federal laws on installations, and installation property. This mean you will do crime reports, part of the crime reporting system is that personal information is used i.e. social security numbers, date of birth place of birth, address, phone numbers, employer information.. This information is very sensitive, and is not just open to everyone to look at. This also means that you are held to higher expectations on confidentiality with that information. The security background check is used to determine you trustworthiness to have access to that information. |

Depends on what your duty is and what service. If you are an MP in the Marine Corps and stationed at HMX-1 Quantico, then yes. Generally to be an MP with a general duty then no. Either way MP's go through a background check regardless.
My first duty station I didn't have any clearence then I went to Quantico and had to go through a screening process. |
