Wear clothing you don't care about, carry only ID, your social security card, and about $20 in cash in your wallet (plus some for the trip, if you have to travel), and wear your running shoes. Buy the shoes a week or two before you leave, and make sure you run in them a few times, so they're broken in. Other than that, you will be hollered at if you bring anything else. All personal belongings will be packed away, you'll get your haircut, and then will be issued your uniforms and PT clothing, including underwear.
The cost of the uniforms will be deducted from your accumulated pay about a week before you leave boot camp, but you'll receive a substantial uniform allowance to pay for most or all of it. Thereafter, annually, you'll receive a smaller uniform allowence to keep your uniforms squared away.
For any more questions you have about boot, go to http://www.marineparents.com It's the best online resource there is, for anything and everything USMC. Check out the Recruits Message Boards, and meet some of the folks there, who know more about Marine Corps Boot camp than anybody else on the planet who hasn't been through it! (And some of them HAVE been through it!) |

Yes they do. Clothes, food, an exercise and fitness program with free trainers, medical and dental care, housing, and nice drill instructors. What you take to boot camp will be sent back home in a box. You will need nothing but guts. |

Your civilian clothes will be packed away and you will get them back at the end of bootcamp. You will be issued military goods from the skin out and be expected to turn it in when you muster out. If you wear glasses, you will be issued plain frame glasses of moderate size, etc. Bring your own toilet kit of washing, shampoo and shaving gear. Bring a small quantity of paper, pens, and stamps for writing home easily. |

Wear nothing but the clothes you are going to wear to boot camp. Once you are in boot camp these clothes will be put away in a bag and you have to keep them and not allowed to open them until you are finished with boot camp.
You will be issued everything from your uniform to your daily hygiene needs, but it will not be free. They will take the cost of your uniform from your first pay check, which would only be $200 out of your paycheck. Don't forget to bring a voided check with you, this way they can direct deposit your pay check every two weeks to your financial institution. If you don't bring a check from your bank or if you don't have one, they will issue your paycheck to a bank of your prefference when you are there in bootcamp.
Good luck. |

The haircut is free, but nothing else is. The items that are issued to you are paid for by you. They deduct the cost of the items from your pay, but you do get an annual uniform allowance to help pay for uniform upkeep and replacement. |

All you need to bring to boot camp is the clothes on your back, some money.
All of your uniforms will be issued to you there. Its not free they just deduct the money from the paychecks that you will get while in boot camp.

You will get what you need from the Marine Corps. Before boot you will receive information containing ALL you need to know. You should be in contact with your recruiter quite often as well as attending as many DEP functions.
Please contact your recruiter for more detailed information; however know that the Marines are VERY prepared and efficient.
Congratulations on your decision to enlist with the most elite branch.
I wish you well! |

Nothing's free, you pay in sweat and tears. And a little blood, maybe. Oh, that and they dock your first paycheck for your uniform but food and housing are free so you can't really complain. |

If Marine boot camp is like Navy boot camp (and it should be the same in this regard, since the Marines are part of the Navy), then everything you're issued in boot camp (working uniforms, dress uniforms, boots, dress shoes, under clothes, etc., etc.) is deducted from the paychecks you recieve while in boot camp.
So now. It is not free. You pay for it via payroll deduction. |

Bring a little cash and your prescription drugs. Everything will be issued to you. It isn't "free" really. Tax payers are footing the bill. |
