Do Medics or Corpsman Have To Shoot?

Do they have to fight like everyone else? Or can they stay in a little corner and help anyone who gets hurt while trying to not get shot. That was what I was planning to do, when I am about to join the Navy?

Yes you do. Depending on if you become a combat corpsman with the Marine Corps. Marines have the motto, "One Marine, One Rifleman" This is true for EVERY Marine, cooks, clerks, technicians, etc. But the Marines rely on the Navy for its medical needs so therefore, if you are placed into a Marine Unit you will get Marine combat training. But you will not be thrown into combat. Actual combat is the last resort for a corpsman. However you may be issued a 9mm sidearm, but corpsmen have been known to handle the standard M16A4s or if they are not in a direct combat unit, they will be issued the A2s. But you will not be offensive, you will rely on the weapon for your own personal defense. |

Medics and Corpsmen have to be the bravest men and women on the battlefield. It doesn't sound like you're cut out for the job--don't sully the name of their noble profession. |

what I was told when I joined the army no matter what MOS you are you are always infantry first. If you are going to me a combat medic you are going to see some action. |

In the Navy there have been 22 Corpsmen that have been awarded the Medal of Honor. This is by far more than any other rating or organization in the US Navy. It is also the only group in the Navy to receive a blanket commendation from the Secretary of the Navy. You don't get accolades like this from being in the corner waiting to help people who managed to crawl back to you with their guts hanging out. If you want to be a Corpsman you have to have you balls screwed on tight. |

yes you also have to fight when your a medic the red cross over your head is like a giant target to them so they have to fight just like other soldiers |

They can get attacked at any moment in battle, so they HAVE to go through BCT like everyone else. |
