my nephew has done 3 tours of duty in Afghanistan.when he was first posted out there my mam had to buy his desert boots for him from the Americans because our army only supplied the basic boots. it is absolutely disgraceful when,we are one of the richest countries in the world and we are sending our troops to war unequipped.i will sign the petition and pass it on to as many people.thank you for the link xx and have a star.you deserve one
Tigger: "bring them home and give them something useful to do" my friend has just brought her son's body back from Afghanistan and buried him...her one bit of comfort is that he died a hero fighting for what he believed in...do you think the war is just a fruitless exercise?get your head out of the sand and think past your nose end..the war on TERROR which these troops are fighting benefits the whole world,do you want to live in fear all your life,to take a train a bus or aeroplane.i don't think so
edit*hello
thank you i will pass your condolences on x |

Unfortunately our Government does everything on the cheap. What amazes me is that, when they get caught out (as they all too readily do), they carry on regardless even when it's the lives of our troops. |

I support them 100%!
Stay the course, fight the good fight.
Its either fight them there or
fight them in the UK and the US. |

I truely do support all troops in the middle east.As a US soldier I know our closest brothers are from the UK and they stand by us every way. If the treatment they recieve is even a fraction of what we get it is sad. It's sad when someone deploys and they don't have proper equipment too hold a weapon in a turret. It's sad when they are not equiped with harnesses to keep someone from falling off of it. And it's even more sad when your best friend returns with an injury sustained from lack of equipment and returns to their home station where there are brand new computers in every office, a big screen TV hardly even used for training, new vehicles for LE patrols, and the people she needs to go see about getting help are taking personal days from work and there is no one who can fill in properly for them. It's sad when that same person is going through so much pain and mental stress and it takes months to get her surgery set up because of "administrative errors" which basically mean they lost the paper work or someone forgot to sign something. It's pretty bad when those same people that create the "administrative errors" find a way to blame the injured person by saying they refused medical attention just to cover their butts and that person is accused of malingering. It's sad when the only people a soldier can rely on are those fighting next to them. We have people dead now not because of terrorism but because the governments, no matter which country you come from, don't have proper equipment sent to these troops. We have people calling the shots who have never seen first hand what these troops are dealing with. Your right, something needs to be done. |

I support the UK troops. I have always admired their indoctrination and I am a big fan of their history...especially during World War 2. They have always managed to do so much with so little and I believe that's a feat many developed nations' military powers will never be able to do. They trained a lot of our own troops, and if it weren't for the Special Air Services, we wouldn't have many of our Special Forces units that we do today.
I don't agree with what they're doing right now. They are indeed under-equipped and Blair's decision to support our war was just as big of a mistake as us going into Iraq in the first place. Budgets need to be carefully supervised and should be allocated to the best interest of the PEOPLE and the PEOPLE FIGHTING for those people.
By the way, I'm speaking from an American perspective when I say "we." |

I am an American, but the fact that people can actually say that they don't support those who are fighting and dieing in their honor is a complete disgrace, whatever country you belong to. Those boys are over there doing their jobs, and being heroes, and you lame *** ***** are sitting behind your computers saying you don't support them. You don't deserve anything you have. |

The British Army and military in general, get my total support at all times.
The British Army from my experience [1957-1965] seems always [historically] to be ill-equipped and poorly prepared and badly lead.
It's political you see. Citizen Dokes, who got elected and selected as Secretary of State for Defence, has no military experience. He is surrounded by a group of folk who know what needs to be done but spend their time arguing about it. The result of all of this is that little or nothing gets done.
There are bound to be lots of mistake in the supply of equipment etc.
The soldier, sailor and airmen and women of our armed forces need a better deal and should in my opinion have direct choice in the equipment they want and need and not have it dictated to them by politicians who in most cases are not going anywhere near any fighting and have no plans ever to send any of their offspring near any either. |

They shouldn't be in Iraq and they are doing little good in Afghanistan, but that was the Government's choice. I wish they would come home or carry out their duties in countries like Darfur or Zimbabwe. |

How am I supposed to know if the kit the army uses in Iraq etc is "enough"?
I hate to have to say this but very often its not the fault of the quantity or quality of equipment but of the lack of belief which often loses battles.
David challenged Goliath with a slingshot and a pebble and won.
The US dropped hundreds of thousands of bombs on SE Asia and lost.
What was the difference? |

Of course i do i am married to one who has just got back from Iraq.....
It is about time our government pulled its finger out all our troops are over committed and some equipment is poor
I will sign and pass it along
EDIT TIGGER our soilders should do something useful should they?
Is social stability or national security not useful then ?
Is your suggestion of re education an opion you think our military are dumb?
Silly boy they are highly trained and very intelligent in their trades ....
The military are useful ... they assist in disasters .. they help against the war in terror .. i could go on but i feel i am wasting my time with you...
As for medals ... well my hubby has earned all his medals and i am proud of what he has done for his country ..
You have got medal envy as there is no way you could cope with an operational tour ......
All you have is a little blue peter badge ..
my final point to you is WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR YOUR COUNTRY LATELY ?
EDIT busy bee ... well said send my thoughts to your friend xxx |

Absolutely yes. Our troops are doing a fantastic job with lousy equipment and with the handicap of an unsupportive government. We need a bigger better equipped and supported military in this country and that doesn't come cheap. I'm no longer serving but fully support the idea of a special clasp to the Afghan medal . |

mate you need to get your fact right,
first thing first troops do get a campain medal for afganistan i know this because i have one. the papers where talking about a different medal for serving in helmand its self.
and second the troops in afgan have been given so many upgradges of equipment including the improved M-WMIK, the UGL for the SA80, the Genade machine gun, new .50 cal machine gun, viking armoured fight vehicles, new night vision goggles, opsey body armour, helments and even better boots. and by all accounts more stuff on the way and all this was sorted and put in theatre in 18 months, so our lads have got some good stuff.
we do need more helicopters though and the RAF needs more manning to operate them so they can support the troops on the ground.
so do a little reading on the mod website first. |

Yes because I have not only friends over there but also my Dad is over there so yes I support the US troops because they are over there doing their jobs and leaving their friends and family behind over here so that we can wake up ever day and not have to worry about another 9/11. |

Well if we thought what they have was poor look at this years budget and you will see it is getting a whole lot worse. This is why so many are leaving the forces even seniors they have just had enough.....When you get to the point of men being left in an area of heavy fire and their ammo is nearly gone and logistics cant get to them for days.....Mr Brown needs to Get those lads out of there NOW...........OR commit to support with the funding and equipment needed........ |

The white man should come out of middleeast and afghanistan and completely stop trading with these nations. Let these people die and kill each other. just like the old ages let us sell them bombs guns and nuclear bombs. these peole have been fighting since time started! WHO is the white man to create peace between these people? If the white man is only there to collect the opium and the oil ... we could grow our own opium and find oil from else where...! because politics is a very dirty game and normal innocent hard working voters dont and will never know what is going on in the corridors of power!no offense to anyone look around and tell me if i lie? This war of tony and bush will carry on for a another million years... while crime and poverty is killing people here in the UK who is the white man to teach another race religion Freedom? a thing never known of in these areas? |

too right i bloody do. my dad's RAF and my hubby's RAF, and I am proud - even though the government arent - of what they do for their queen and country.
I've heard countless tales of 'our boys' not having the right kit, the best intelligence and the best food when they are in iraq or afghanistan.
I was even more angry when i heard that troops would not be issued with medals for doing these tours. |

signed it - thanks for the info
there's a lot of anti war people about but that isn't an excuse for not being supportive of our young men and women who risk their lives .

I can only answer you question with another question! All the UK and UN troops combined dont equal what the USA has involved! And how often so you hear of British, Austrailian, French, German or any other country suffering the loses that we have had? Our troops have been at the forefront of every conflict and have always had the most casualties! Ofcourse I always support all the troops involved, but the participation is not on an even playing field! |
|

bringmesunshine is back!!!

Instead of 'getting the job done' why not get them back home now? That way there will be less casualties and fatalities. |

yes i do ,my grandfather was a R.A.F pilot in WW2 ..was shot down a few times ...he said if it was not for the YANKS helping when we did all would be lost ...these are his words and what he believed in his heart at the time and until he left this world in march of 2007.. at the age of 90 .my grandfather said the YANKS are the best allies to have...and if he was in his prime he would join the U.S.A.F to return the help we gave ENGLAND in WW2.....and yes i support the British troops every step of the way ,i also pray for them every night, and i hope they come home in one piece and get what they need to get the job done ...we YANKS are in the same boat and we will help out in any way we can ......good luck and GOD BLESS THE BRITISH TROOPS |
