Do coast guards get sent to battle or do they stay in america?

First off we are Coasties or Coast Guardsman, not "Coast Guards".

* Yes we are combat orientated.
* Yes we have fought in every major the battle the US has been since the countries founding.

What makes us unique is our mix of wartime and peacetime missions. SAR, Law Enforcement, ATON and Homeland Security are essentially our peacetime missions amongst others. Carrier Battle Group Supprt, Port Security, Naval Coastal Warefare, Boarding Foreign vessels in theater are included as our wartime missions.

If you get affilitated with a unit that has a peacetime type mission such as marine safety, I doubt you will be deployed overseas. But remember we are all military members so if there is a full blown war dont be suprised if we shift gears.

We have people in theater right now. Our people have seen combat in every conflict since our inception in 1790.

The dolts who say we haven't been used in combat since WWII are likely not affiliated with the Coast Guard in any way. We had 82-foot patrol boats all through Viet Nam and we have 110-foot patrol boats in Southwest Asia in support of OIF.

It depends on your unit. If you're stationed aboard a large cutter, (210', 270', or 378') or a polar class ice breaker, you're visiting other countries in the Carribean, Europe, South America, Africa, Middle East/Persian Gulf or islands in the Pacific Ocean. Reservists assigned to Port Security Units are called to active duty every 3-4 years and sent to the Persian Gulf for 3-6 months.

If you're interested in a job that saves lives and guaranteed not to be deployed outside America, take a civil service exam and become an ambulance driver or firefighter.

The Coast Guard have.nt been used in combat since WWII, however dosen't mean that they will never be sent into battle again. They could be, but the chances are very low. It would have to be some kind of Major, Global war for them to be called up to fight.

When war is declared they are transferred from the department of the Treasury to the Department of Defense.

WW2 was the last war that was actually "declared". Korea, Vietnam, and Gulf 1 and 2 were all "Police Actions".

The CG hasn't been at war since WW2.
