War is our business and business is booming.
Honestly, if you had a "choice" some people would elect not to go. Which means that somebody else would have to pick up the slack over and over again. The Air Force wouldn't last too long if that were the case.
You make your choice when you sign up. |

If you join any branch of the service, you go with the understanding that you may have to go to war. If you're not prepared for that reality (especially today) then don't join.
That being said, your chances of going to Iraq or Afghanistan are less than if you were to join the Army or the Marines. |

If you are told you have to deploy to a war zone you do have a choice
Go as ordered or sit in the brig |

You do not have a choice, but you can choose to volunteer. If you join you most likely wont be deploying for at least a couple years anyways just to let you know that. You have to go to basic, tech school, and do cdc's. |

You will have a choice but the wrong choice could get you a court martial and dishononable discharge. |

Umm. Yes. You're joining the military not the Boy Scouts. The militarys job is to kill people and break things.
Your chance of going to war depends on what missions need to be met and where. If your unit missions are in high demand then you are probably going. |
|

**You must be kidding**
|
You'll learn really quickly that you can volunteer or you can be voluntold.
Regardless of what branch you enlist in, you have to be cognizant of the fact that every job has a chance of deploying somewhere.
I would tell you to look into your heart of hearts and if you're not ready to deploy, please don't enlist.
Also, although another person stated that you won't deploy for a few years...that's not entirely true. They can (and do) deploy 3 levels. They just give you an extension on your CDC's. |

Military owns you for the term of your enlistment.
You have almost no rights. Its not going to be your choice at all. |

You're looking at the wrong career if you like choices. Now granted there are some jobs that do not deploy, like recruiters, military training instructors (MTIs), military training leaders (MTLs), tech school instructors, and a few others I can't think of - but these are not entry-level jobs either. If war broke out though you could be recalled to your former career field if they needed you. But having the choice to volunteer for war or not? Stay in the civilian sector. Someone else said it best, go to war or to jail. Ashley B. below said it right, you can deploy as a 3-level, I deployed a few months after getting to my first base, and a couple more times after that still as a 3-level. I was holding down a MSgt or above position as a 3-level SSgt in safety when I first got in this career field. Skill-levels don't mean much anymore. |
