Do liberals and Democrats hate war because it involves personal responsibility?

because you and only you are responsible for the death of another if you kill them in combat...you can't shift the blame. oh...and please don't answer because you care about life when you say its ok to kill an unborn baby just because you don't want it...

I've never killed an unborn baby, and I don't want to be responsible for taking another human beings life for any of the unethical reasons that the Iraq war is being fought. Why aren't you in Iraq, chickenhawk?

Your silly, sweeping generalization aside, historically speaking Democratic presidents have waged war more often than Republicans.

This current president never served in Vietnam and was AWOL from his guard duty. How is that personal responsibility? Clinton went to England during Vietnam so he is no better, but if you think that the present crop of Dems and Reps are vastly different from one another you are fooling yourself. All they do is spin their own brand of propaganda so that ignorant children like yourself will follow them blindly - something our forefathers very much wanted to avoid.

I don't think liberals and Democrats have an exclusive on hating war. We all hate war. President Bush hates war. The commanders in Iraq and Afghanistan hate war.

But sometimes you have to do something you hate, because there is no alternative.

Liberals and Democrats might not always remember that we, as Americans, have been truly blessed by God with democracy, freedom of religion, material wealth, and a diverse culture of many acceptable beliefs that are all rooted in the basic premise of freedom. How then, with all that we have been blessed with, can we refuse to do our part to make this a safer and better world?

War is not popular and the current war is less popular than most. But I truly believe history will judge that President Bush made the correct decision. In the end, it is the judgment of history and not the judgment of liberals and Democrats that will ultimately prevail.

(1) I am a Democrat. My home state (Hawaii) has historically been Democrat.

(2) I am also a two-tour infantry vet from the 101st Airborne Division. I see no contradiction with (1).

(3) Of our nation's major wars in the last century and our Presidents during that time ...

Second World War - FDR (Democrat), Truman (Democrat)
Korean Conflict - Truman (Democrat)
Vietnam War - Kennedy (Democrat), LBJ (Democrat)

So what have you done for national security? Please explain in detail, and why you feel it is proper to take an your ridiculous, needlesly insulting political stance.

As much time as some of you idiots spend villifying fellow Americans ("Liberals", "Chickenhawks", etc etc), it gives the real enemy overseas incredible breathing room and probably more than a few laughs.

Any rational human being hates war, the slur you're trying to make is that liberals and Democrats hate ALL war, regardless of reason. And as World War II showed, that's not true.

It's not enough to blindly lump all wars together, and it's outright stupid to take the attitude "my country right or WRONG" because of the ramifications of the last word. But I suspect that's exactly the attitude you take.

The Bush Wars have been a series of unjustified acts of aggression. No sane person knowingly supports such things.

We should all hate war. I can presume from your question you have not been on the battlefield, if I am incorrect then please excuse my assertion. Let me tell you one story. A fella was penned down by sporadic gun fire, his partner motioned ahead that he would make a break to the next tree, he requested cover. Unbeknowest to him, the enemy had a 50 caliber machine gun. His partner fired in the direction of the sporadic gun fire to serve as a decoy, the other troop ran across a brief open space to get behind a tree diagonal from his previous position. The problem was that the lower half of his body made it, the upper half was mowed down and he was in a state of shock. The lower half of his torso ran another 12-15 feet; and then fell forward. Now I cannot tell you if that was a liberal who died, a democrat or a hawkish republican. When you are on the field, you care about what I just describe because those experiences become nightmares and later haunt you for the rest of your life. When American blood is killed in combat I don't care what you think or who you are, knowone wants to be responsible for the death of someone's husband, mother, uncle or child. It sickens you everytime you close your eyes, even if you blink. And then, if you live long enough and are lucky enough, you witness another death. Let me tell you a fact. Our justice system calls a serial killer, someone who has killed 5-10 people, some of the more notorius criminal minds like Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer have been reported to kill 30-50 people. These people are considered monsters. A military sniper will have killed hundreds of people,in some cases thousands. Your depiction of one's political stripes does not matters when you are put in a kill or be killed situation, literally from sun up to sun down. So the answer to your question is No. Those who have gone hate war because you leave one way and you come back a different person after you have killed hundreds of people; perhaps some of your own by friendly fire. The answer is an emphatic, NO.

Curtis B has been sleeping in history class again.
JFK (a Democrat) started the war in Vietnam, and it was hippie REPUBLICANS that demonstrated against it. We elected a Republican president (Nixon) to end it exactly like we have elected a Democratic congress to end this one.

Bush was president and pulled the troops out of Iraq to end DS1. Democrats didn't have a thing to do with it.

We hate war because it is a waste of billions of dollars in the case of the Iraq War. It is also a senseless loss of lives. It is all about destruction...not creation.

Christopher S
That is one of the primary reasons the democrats and liberals don't like war. That and the simple fact of the matter is they believe in more peaceful means in doing things. thats why former president clinton let approximatly 7000 people get killed and injured by terrorists throughout the world. I mean it just wouldn't be right to bring the culprits to justice and possibly kill them for their wrong doings.
