Do they give me a passport after boot camp?..or not until i'm about to be deployed?

If you want a passport you can get one yourself. You don't get one when you deploy because you don't need one.

When you deploy you use your deployment orders, not your passport. If you get sent to an area that would require you to have a passport the military has forms you can fill out to get a no-fee passport.

You get a passport if the assignment you have requires it. If it is required, more then likely it will be an official passport and cannot be used for tourism.

And to correct the first answer, I have been on deployments that required a passport. Most deployments do not require them (Iraq and Afghanistan for example). When I was deployed to the Horn of Africa I was required to have one. It depends on the deployment, how long it has been going on, what the SOFA is and other diplomatic matters if it is required.

If you are being deployed as part of the military, all you'll need is your military orders. You will not need a passport, nor will the military give you one. If you choose to get one, it'll be out of your pocket.

You are a Marine and will not be issued a Passport if you are stationed in the US. The only time you are issued a passport is if you PCS to an overseas location and you are eligible for two of them. You can get the Government Issued No Fee Passport for traveling on orders or use your Military ID card (not advised though), and you should get your Tourist Passport (your own cost) so you can travel for personal reasons. If you are deploying then you will not be issued a passport as one will not be necessary, unless you are going on a MEU where it can be required, then which it can be a No Fee.

your military id card is your passport... you dont need a little book looking thing like the civilians

I can't speak for some other country but United States military doesn't issue passports. Your official orders and military Identification card serve the purpose of a passport. You generally don't go through customs anyway. You go instead to a military pick up point where your orders will be checked.
A passport is used by civilians who choose to visit another country. The military issues orders to you and assumes responsibility for you in the other country so a passport is not necessary.

ANSWER* - am guessing that you will get a passport when you go to briefing, before deployment and after bootcamp

You need ur passport anytime u will leave ur state.. in plain or bus or train... but to be deploy u just need ur military
