Do we still have to fight them over there (Iraq) so we don't have to fight them here (USA) ...?

now that the UK is fighting them there?

I'm not sure how this whole idea works. I'm only sure it's a lot of malarkey.

The theory that sending American troops to Iraq will somehow prevent terrorist actions in the US is pretty shaky at best. The leadership of the terrorist movements can decide to attempt as action anywhere anytime. They are not limited to fighting troops. As a matter of fact they prefer not to. Terror by its very definition is aimed at a civilian population.

LOL, right on Mike O... we've got those terrorists so muddled up fighting us over there in Iraq they don't have the resources to even attempt bombing an airport in the UK... oh... wait a second

They will not lay down their weapons if we leave...We should fight them there-because they are there...we should seek out and destroy them wherever they may be...

They will never really fight here anyway. They will just do cowardly suicidal attacks. They don't fight. They know they'd lose. I wish we could fight them anywhere. That line is total bs.

I think the idea that "we haven't been hit here since 9/11" is dangerous. I also think it's a Republican mantra that they recite over and over and over again to reassure themselves of the job Bush is doing and to scare those who disagree with them into their type of thinking. Fear is a powerful motivator. In the days and weeks before the 2004 election, the terror threat level was elevated several times and conveniently, a tape with Bin Laden on it was released probably as a reminder that "if you elect a democrat they'll attack again," yet another republican mantra and fear tactic. Giuliani recently used the ol' "democrats make us less safe" mantra and it's simply NOT true. Democrats care just as much about the safety of the American people as anyone else! Maybe MORE. Why didn't Bush want a Department of Homeland Security? Why didn't Bush want an investigation into 9/11? Why hasn't Bush asked for legislation to stop suspected TERRORISTS from BUYING GUNS? Why was Bush going to allow the United Arab Emirates to BUY major PORTS in New York? Why hasn't Bush asked for legislation or budgeted money to ensure containers coming into those ports are properly inspected? Why hasn't Bush focused on finding Bin Laden? Anyone?

It is working, it is not malarkey.

Proof: No successful terrorist attacks in the united states.

OK, so noted ! Anything else you care to add?

The fact is, nobody knows how this nonsense will end, however if we do nothing, it's guaranteed to end badly for the good guys.

Yes and I know this because the same guy who sold me insurance against elephant stampedes told me so - we haven't had any elephant stampedes since I bought that insurance, so you can thank me.

It's malarkey. It's trying to get people to think that the problem in Iraq is Al Qaeda, so they'll support the war. But the problem is Sunni Nationalist Insurgents and Shiite Death Squads. Both want us gone, and when we leave, they're not coming here. They just want to kill each other, and us as long as we're in the way.

The UK is fighting a 3rd generation of Pakistani British born muslim youth, who choose to promote their primitive ancestral root's, rather than the British hospitality that is being offered to them on a plate, you can't please them all, and if it's so imperative not to have them follow our troop's home then why don't we just stop them? because it's "OUR" own greed for oil that comes up trumps.

Whether Al-Qaeda, Baathists, or Sunni Nationalists, they are all the same -- Islamofascists (i.e. Islamic terrorists). We do have a serious problem in Iraq with Al-Qaeda, on that just isn't going to go away if we leave. If you read the 9/11 Commission's report, you'll see that not only did Al-Qaeda exist in Iraq before the invasion, Saddam intentionally harbored them. But that's beside the point.

To answer your question directly: yes, we do need to keep fighting them over there. You must understand that the ideology of Radical Islam is a murder-convert mentality, meaning that they want to either kill you or convert you. There is no negotiating with them, because they are indoctrinated with hate and lack the ability to reason.

The War on Terror is real.

You have been killing them in their home, on their soil, thier children.
You know your building enemies faster than friends, its just a matter of time.

Your haven't been attacked because the threat has been blown out of proportion by those in the "security business" and politicians

No.....it seems while we are fighting them there....they are letting them in everywhere else.

You have 20,000(arbritrary numbers) people who are willing to kill themselves to kill you because you don't want to kill me.

19,000 of them would rather go to Iraq to do so.

Even if only 2,000 decide to come to your homeland, that is 3x as many as would have otherwise.

What happens if you take the purpose in them going there away? I for one would prefer to be armed and vested fighting them there, than to be killed in an office building or shopping center trying to be peaceful.

I like the fact that they have chosen that battlefield. They have even left the Afghanistan field of battle, for the most part. They left the Taliban to fight for themselves. They left the HIG to try to gain power. Yep, Al-Qaeda left Afghanistan to go fight in Iraq.

It doesn't mean they won't still attempt to attack us here, but fortunately LE is doing a good job of keeping those few that desire to in their sights.

And the military is doing a good job keeping as many of them that wish to come to the field of battle busy over there.

It's two different things. It's the same goal. And it works, hand in hand.
