Do you agree with the war in Iraq?

Raisin Bran
absolutely 101%. We're hunting down and defeating terrorists and extremists that would otherwise danger our great saftey and freedom here in the great US of A.

Bush is only trying to protect our safety and interests here at home.

phedro
why? what's it been saying?

No I don't agree with the war. I think other wars have been easier to justify (e.g. protection from Nazis) but this time the war was only for the West's greed and strategic aims- there was no honour in it. In fact there is dishonour.

Ok, there are some actual terrorists in the world, but their numbers would have been kept quite low if we hadn't invaded Iraq, supported the invasion with our troops and created more and more hate for the West through our policies and sanctions around the world. The outcome of a survey (maybe more than one survey) shows that many Muslims believed the reason for 911 and other terrorist acts was because the West refuses to leave Iraq and stubbornly stays.

Endless people stood against the invasion, which was illegal according to the UN, before it even began- but it went ahead anyway. Now that the West is in the s*it the least we can do is properly train the Republican guard and get some sort of structure ready for the onslaught that will inevitably accompany a withdrawal. But we don't even do that; we're just going to pull out quickly and allow civil war to break out- if it hasn't already.

The cause of the war should definitely not be given any credit, but we should welcome home the troops that return for giving lives and blood for such a ridiculous and selfish cause. That the West would start threatening Iran after the mess it's stirred up in Afghanistan and Iraq is farcical. What's the next target? I'm sure there will be one.

Look out for the initial denials from the White House that there is any problem with a certain country; that's how the issue with Iraq was subtly brought into the public's focus by the government PR people. Let's hope that we get some new blood to replace some of the misled and narrow-minded leaders we have at the moment.

My brother is LTC in the Army and was awarded the Bronze Star. He served 2 tours in Iraq and was also in Bosnia. I applaud all of our soldiers for the hard, dangerous work they do and the freedoms they provide us. However, I don't believe that Iraq posed the most danger to the international community. Internationally this war was a thumbs down yet America decided to invade disregarding the voice of our allies. Other countries pose greater threats such as Korea and we have done nothing. Invading Iraq has damaged the image of the American public, put us on the verge of recession and placed us in greater danger than ever before. It's time we find a leader that provides us with what has been lacking in this country for the past 8 years DIPLOMACY.

The terrorists in Iraq only appeared on the scene after invasion.

The invasion was based on lies and mis-representation of the facts.

Had the administration in the USA and the Government in the UK withdrawn and apologised immediately they found no evidence of WMD the place would not be in the mess it is today.

As for Saddam being an evil dictator - He wasn't evil when both administrations were backing him with arms and money in the fight against Iran!!

Am I a tree hugger?? No - just a fecking realist with 15 years service and a son now serving.

This arrogance of our "nation building" strategy has been a complete disaster. It does not benefit us to go to war with a country, defeat it, and then spends trillions of dollars in an attempt to turn them into a mini-America. This "nation building" policy is unworkable, ineffective, and has backfired on the US by turning resounding victories in battle into long, endless occupations that have taxed our country's spirit and resources.

In my opinion the US should have invaded Iraq, crimpled their military, arrested Saddam, then dictated terms for peace, and withdrawn. This policy of "nation building" is not a war strategy, it is a means to funnel billions of dollars out of the tax payers pockets. And it serves only to rebuild and fortify our enemies for years to come.

Also, it is important to remember that according to the consitution only Congress can declare war and congress only authorized military action against Saddam. No declaration of war was ever given. So Bush has violated the US Constitution, as he and the entire world call this "The Iraq War", and whether the war was justified or not should be secondary to the more important issue of whether we still have a constitution or not.

Caring girl.
No I disagree with the war in Iraq.

Yes, I agree with the war. We have to start what we finished. If we don't believe in what we're fighting for then who will?

As far as Tiramisu....you were able to have served for over 50 years? Sorry...it's not possible. Next time why don't you try something a little more believable.

I hate Hussein Obama
NO! Bad idea from the start only made worse by the administration's ineptitude. Now their refusal to admit they made a mistake continues to kill and maim our guys all these years later.

I agree that we had little choice but to go into Iraq. And our reasons were sound enough, especially with the recent information that Saddam purposely claimed he had WMD to try to Bluff Iran, (and no doubt everyone else) Well his bluff worked , we believed him. maybe he shouldn't have tried playing his silly games.

no i think its wrong - its an excuse for america to get to oil which is largely stored in those areas - its all about money - not about terrorism anymore !! terrorism is just a lame excuse for them to have more money

Absolutely not. I think that the only thing we really accomplished was that Sadam Hussein was found. It's time to send home the troops. :(

The war in Iraq was a mistake, but you can't leave a mess without cleaning it up. It is simply unethical and consequential not to finish what we started.

black bunny
yes, understand my reasoning...

If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed;

If you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly;

you many come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival.

There may be even a worse fate. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.

JEM
I'm expecting thumbs-down for my opinion, but i'm a big girl, I can take it.
Nope...it's an illegal war. The war was never approved by the UN which is in violation of international law. If everyone else has to abide by it, why should we exclude ourselves. Oh and where are the WMD's that Bush sent us in for????
I don't think the troops should be pulled back....we messed up and now we have to fix it.

Very true John A

As Saddam Hussein put 3 million to death in 25 years , he was the worst WOMD. ever. Iraq will eventually emerge as a free and better nation.

To the poster Tiramisu al cucchiaio:
How exactly are you a, Korean Vet, Vietnam Vet, Bosnia Vet, Kosovo Vet, Desert Storm Vet and a veteran of OIF I, II, III, IV, V? This claim in effect is impossible.

Every time you post you state as such, you also claim to be a recipient of the Bronze Star, and Purple Heart.

You really should read the Stolen Valor Act, it pertains to you.

To answer the question:
I agree that the action was ultimately a good thing. I also would not classify the situation in Iraq right now as a "war." Currently the homicide rate there is lower than Detroit, Michigan, or Washintong D.C. for Iraqi civilians and US personnel and our armed forces personnel have a higher chance of dieing in a car accident back home then hostile fire.

Had Saddam allowed unrestricted UN inspection like he agreed to in 1992 then there would have been no cause to invade Iraq.

However Saddam didn't allow unrestricted inspections, at the time there was little else the US could do other than assume WMD's were there and take any and all measures to ensure that they didn't fall into the hands of those wishing to inflict more damage on American civilians.

It turns out that the WMD's were never there, or what most likely happened is that they were trucked off to Syria and Iran just like they did artwork, money, arms, and valuables from the Saddam regime.

To me this doesn't really matter it just forced us to pull a thorn out of our sides sooner than we wanted to.

Had Saddam played ball the invasion wouldn't have happened, he didn't now he is dead and his government is gone. I guess we can go about securing a free democratic society there...win win as far as I am concerned.

What war in Iraq? Their civil war? It's been coming for a very long time now.

FYI, the guy that said he was in Korea and other wars is a liar. To have done that would require over 50 years of service.

Yes, I agree with kicking Iraq out or Kuwait. now the rest is the price we pay.

No i believe all troops should be bought home to defend the channel tunnel ports and airports from illegal immigrants and terrorists and aid in the removal of illegal immigrants. British or American men and women should not have to die trying to force democracy on people who don't want it.

Britain should not attempt to impose its views on the middle east nor aid the Islamification of Britain.

cafegroundzero
Do you mean to say, do I agree with how the war has been managed or mismanaged? Or do I agree that the United Kingdom, the United States, and allies should be waging that war? Or are you asking if I agree that war is a necessary evil? Or that it doesn't matter if it is evil?

Please think what you are saying. Say exactly what you mean, and mean only what you must say.
