Do you receive your first military paycheck during basic?

If not - when do you get your first paycheck? I'm trying to budget all my existing bills (car payment, credit cards, etc, etc...) and need to know how much money to keep in my account for these things to be withdrawn & paid based on when I am actually going to get my first paycheck.

I'm going into the Air Force FYI... ship date = 7 July 2009 so based on what you all are saying then I am probably going to get my first check on 1 August?

Yes you do, I believe they still pay once a month.

You will get paid the first month that you are there. You will inprocess Finance on day two of reception and depending on what pay schedule you chose, Bi-Monthly or once a month, you will receive your pay on the 1st and the 15th or just on the 1st. No matter what day you inprocess though, you will be paid on the following 1st. So if you get there on the 10th of may, you will be paid on the 1st of june.

I understand that all the services have gone to electronic funds transfer to a members personal checking account. I can not answer which services begin regular semi weekly paydays (1st & 15th) and which give partial payments through basic with the balance paid on the regular payday preceding (anticipated) graduation day.

When i went to AF boot camp they gave us a card that had cash on it. Kind of like a debit but it was a certain amount of money that you would need to get randoms throughout basic (shampoo,bodywasH,etc) but you filled out a direct deposit form for your check. But i would leave enough in your account to take care of your bills the duration of your boot camp. It is just better to not have to deal with it until u r out of that mindset. Good luck

You'll start getting paid depending on when you start basic. If you enter training between the 1st and the 15th you probably won't be paid until the 1st of the next month. Between the 15th and 30th it will probably be at the 15th of the next month. The military pays on the 1st and 15th and the delay is due to the time it takes to get you in the system. Sometimes it's quick and other times it's right away.

You don't say what branch of service you're going into. It's a little different for each branch. Keep enough in your account for a couple of months payments to be on the safe side.

The military will do direct deposit into your checking account unless you're going into the Marines I think.

It has been a while, I am not sure if they still do it but... When I went in (many many moons ago) all recruits were required to draw some advance pay to cover some costs of training and what not. I would keep that in mind. Or then again things may have changed in the 8 years since I in-processed.

no you recieve you 1st paycheck after you complete basic-and advanced i believe. once you have done that you will get assigned somewhere and the money starts coming then.
