Do you support a military draft?
Find answers to your legal question.

Do you support a military draft?

I ask if you Americans would support a mandatory draft to make all Americans fight in this war on terrorism? I mean men and women, ages 18-40, rich and poor, ugly or pretty, etc. I think ALL should fight for the country and fight Bushs war.

I think everyone should do time in the military and then and only then will you see the respect that these guys/gals who serve deserve.

No draft, I don't want any cowards in the military, only ones who want to truly serve.

Haha, I heard the war protests of Vietnam were bad. Imagine if they started a draft now. There would probably be riots.

Absolutely NOT.

You said it. "BUSH'S WAR"

Why do innocent and uneducated people need to die for someone else?

Have Iraqi's crossed the ocean and attacked American civilians?
Why do they deserve just that treatment?

Bush's war is exactly what you said, BUSH's WAR, let him send his kids into it.

Hi,
My generation had the draft system, as did my Mother's generation did. The draft was not used if there wasn't any need of more military personnel.
Having the draft is a safety net for our country.

There are too many negatives to the draft. First, it disrupts normal life, businesses would suffer from the loss of workers, especially manufacturing plants, colleges would notice a sharp drop in students, the poor kids would get called up when the wealthier ones could request deferrments, families would be split a part.

Unfortunately it may become a necessity to have a draft. Didn't Gates say we need 94,000 more troops for the Army and Marines? John Lennon once said, "what if there was a war and no one came?" Answer: Forced draft. I don't think it would be a fair draft. I don't think it's a good idea, but we may need one. The sad thing is once the coffins start coming back 10 and 20 times of the death rate of the present day War on Terrorism, you will see burning cities because of some very angry and upset Americans.

Just like during the Vietnam War days. Not a good idea.

No, I don't support a draft. For one, it's supremely impractical to draft everyone from the ages of 18-40 - if we do that, then how on earth are we going to be able to run a country?? Our economy (pitiful as it is) still requires bodies to function. Not to mention trash pickup, police officers, medical personnel, firefighters, and all those other people who are absolutely essential to day-to-day life. That's not to mention those 18 year old single parents with four children, people who have ALREADY served in the military, people whose religious beliefs don't support bloodshed in any light (and if they're not free to believe that, then what good is America, anyway?), and so on. Part of our freedom is the ability to choose whether or not we want to serve in the military, and right now the population is large enough (and growing fast enough) to support the world's largest military force, anyway. So what, exactly is the point of a draft??

Nope I do not support it, it should be a persons choice if they want to enlist.

Actually the draft is Unconstitutional. The same prohibitions in the US Constitution against involuntary servitude (slavery) that already exist also apply to the draft. We had a cowardly and craven Supreme Court rule the exact opposite during WWI.
If Chief Justice Oliver Wendall Holmes is remembered for anything, he's remembered for that court case where he held that there were limits to Freedom of Speech and you can't "shout FIRE in a crowded movie house!"
Well the defendant in that case wasn't accused of Shouting FIRE anywhere. All he was doing was pointing out that a draft (for a previous contrived and unpopular war) was a form of slavery prohibited by the Constitution.
I'm not for decreasing any more of our liberties in the exploitation of 9-11 we call the War on Terror. I'm for making the incompetent charlatans who gave us this war accountable for their actions.
Specifically, that means the Heritage Foundation, the AEI-American Enterprise Institute (or Arrogant Elitist Idiots), and the contractors who cleaned up( Hallibuton, CCCI, Bechtel, etc) legally and financially accountable for this war!
Let's do that before we draft anybody!

grunt
Yes I wish we had a draft . cause I'm tied of spending time in third world countries so you little bleeding hearts can sit back and bad mouth the Gov I say shut up and put up JOIN ME on the front lines

Uncle Remus
No draft.
Simply offer more pay.
Pay enough and people will volunteer.

I would rather have compulsory service.

Everyone serves upon turning 18 and graduating from HS serves 12-18 months in federal service.

The combination of education, discipline and experience would solve a lot of our social problems.

(You know, the war on terror would be a lot easier if we only had an ammendment to the constitution that made journalists accountable for the things they right. Leave freedom of the press in place--it's important to have that specific freedom; but make the industry more accountable if it refuses to be ethical.)

amofber
umm no, the "war for freedom" is too similar to Vietnam as it is!

YES!!!

Once we start drafting, the lazy brain dead boys will and girls will suddenly wake up and topple Bush.

And the lines at your local mall would disappear -- think of it!

What are we waiting for?

Anyone supporting this war should support this war be first in line to sign up. They should also ask themselves if the cause is good enough that they should have their children enlist.

Ooooh! The truth hurts doesn't it?
