First off this is a volunteer military. So they know the risk, as I did, when they sign up. So with that said...I believe that you have a better chance of getting shot in DC than in Iraq.

What a queer way to phrase that, as if the soldiers had no idea that their enlistment might take them into combat.

But I'll let that crap pass, and answer whether Bush is doing the right thing.

First, you need to understand the mission. After deposing Saddam (accomplished in what? 3 weeks?) our mission became one of occupation, then nation-building and counter-terrorism / insurgency. To protect the lives and freedoms of the newly liberated Iraqi people.

And that is still the mission, to protect the Iraqi people until their government and security forces are capable of doing it on their own. Is that so horrible? Or do you think innocent Iraqis are not worth that price to protect?

Now, since there has been a setback to progress due to increased sectarian violence, one might just want to consider that this might be indicative that we might need some more boots on the ground. The JCS thinks so. Should their counsel be dismissed lightly?

And is the goal worthwhile - a free, democratic, peaceful and prosperous Iraq? I believe it is. I believe it is a goal worth fighting for, worth striving for.

!st off what is an inocent soldier mean. Second these people are trained to fight. I get so tired of hearing people say I support the troops but I do not support the war. What does that mean. These guys have been in training for years to fight, did you support them then? So now they are going out to do their jobs and now we get all upset. So no I do not think he is sending 20000 more troops to die for we have had only 3000 die in 4 years. So the death rate is 3000 soldiers in 4 years with 140000 troops. So I do not think he is sending them all out to die, Maybe to do the job they have been trained to do. And here is how to spell IRAQ not Irak. You probably would not qualify to get into the military anyways so do not worry what we are doing.

Yeah, that's fantastic! send as many 'innocent" soldiers as you possibly can. Make it a million soldiers. And as many journalists as you can. Lower taxes, import more goods, make more debts, outsource as many jobs as possible. Within a decade the 'terrorists'will be out of a job as the US will have crumbled.

don't you mean Iraq? Yeah i think he is. If you watched the adress which apparently you didn't since you're asking this question.....well he sent them there in hopes to clear out insurgents which are enemy soldiers. he doesn't send them to die but to defend and fight. OBVIOUSLY you didn't even hear the address only the outcome so you really shouldn't be asking this until you looked more on the issue. the Iraqi civilians need and want them there, most of them anyways. The soldiers have a choice to serve their country and they know that that can be dangerous sometimes. They also know that they could die if they go to Iraq. And so dies Bush. Think from the president's point of view. HE is in a REALLY tight spot. if he doesn' send them something bad will happen and if he does lives may be lost but the insurgents will possibly leave hopefully

The wording of your question is all wrong. I agree bush is a moron, and this is a low point in US history. However, sending support troops to a war (whether your winning or not) in an attempt to wina conflict is how this and all territories were won. It is what our forefathers and acestors have done since the beginning of humanity. The deaths have been low from a historic point of view, I mean we lost hundreds of thousands in other wars fought just in the last 100 years. Although we are not winning, we are definately not losing. I agree bush made a lot of mistakes, and the legitimacy of this war being started is questionable, however we must realise we are in the war now for whatever reasons and there is a real authentic threat from islamic terrorism. We have been at war with islam on and off since before the times of christ.

I think we should have sent more troops in the beginning like the generals wanted us to, but the secretary of defense (Rumsfield) did the politicaly correct thing to do and say no were the US we can do it with only a few troops. That was a mistake.

Keep in mind that we are training the iraqi people to fight for themselves and if we leave now these people will all be killed for supporting the coalition forces, as will their families, as well as the iraqi police. When a devision goes out it is 1,000-3,000 iraqi troops supported by usually 800 or less american troops, this is to provide real world training to the iraqu forces so that when we leave ina year or two they can handle their own. I dont like bush but I think sending these troops is only of his smarter choices. We cannot have another vietnam. America must win at all costs.

No, he's doing the wrong thing. Bush can't sleep at night unless he does the wrong thing. He just rolls around in bed, and says stuff like, "Laura I think I screwed up and did the right thing today. I can't believe I was so smart. Now the American people might get some peace of mind. I have to be worse tomorrow."
