Do you think General Peterus should be awarded a 5th star?
|
I know the US has not awarded a 5 star rank to any one since World war II however the rank to my knowledge still officially exists on the books. Do you think he would be a candidate- since he's written the book on counter insurgency, turned Iraq around and will probably turn Afghanistan around as well.

If things turn around in Afghanistan then he probably should be. |

SInce you asked, the POSSIBILITY for GEN Petraeus to be promoted to a fifth star is very, very remote. It has to be Congressionally mandated/approved (as in ALL General officers) and there is a tradition of sorts as well. Petraeus would leap over certainly a number of time in grade four stars and with all the political goings on, it would be doubtful.
I've met Petraeus and talked to him and have a great picture of him and me in Iraq. He is a great and inspirational leader but what we THINK will not get him a fifth star.
Just my opinion. I hope this answers your questions? |

That would give him authority over the chairman of the joints chief of staff. This is the military supreme command. The chairman and the individual services joint chiefs, that is. Petraeus is a field commander, and although the current commander in chief fails to follow military protocol, by not including the joint chiefs on many military decisions, and has Petraeus answering directly to him, does not make it right and proper for it to be this way.
In order for Petraeus to be elevated, the Chairman must first be elevated, and there's really no need to re-introduce this rank. it will not make Petraeus more effective, it will simply expand his ego. |

Well i now that General Petraeus has additional responsibility over Afghanistan, as if he didn't have enough on his plate now. So i would think that having to combat zones under your belt should make him well qualified for a 5th star. |

Because he doesn't command two or more "Armies"....as Eisenhower and MacArthur did...so he doesn't need the rank of 'General of the Armies' rank. |

no..
The Five Star Rank is now regarded as unique to the Second World War, analogous to specially created ranks awarded to Washington and Pershing.
By the way: When did he "Turn Iraq around"? |

The 5-star general position is only attainable in times of Congressionally declared war - which is now. I think Patraeus is a great candidate for this position, and the timing is right. |

Promotion to a higher rank is generally a reward for an accomplishment. My guess is, if he wins in Afghanistan, he MAY be promoted to five star. That will be up to Congress. |

i anal ****!
 |
A 5star only exist when ever there is a higher ranking member in one of the militaries involved in the same war.and despite common bs knowledge there was a 5star in vietnam era also.a 5star isnt needed becuz there is no 1 higher ranking than a general in |
