Yes. Our youth today have slipped so far away from, well basic intelligence and understanding of the consequences of their actions that it should be a part of our educational system that they attend at least 1-2 years in the military then be sent home with a fire-arm and put on permanent reserve. This would A. ensure that no one messes with America and B. Instill a better sense of maturity into our young men.
For those of you who are about to say I am some old fart who is just complaining about stupid kids. I fall in that 18-25 range. |

Not in the US. There is no need for a military that size. |

I believe we should have a system similar to Heinlein's view in Starship Troopers. Military service should not be mandatory, but it should be a prerequisite for anyone seeking full citizenship, including the right to vote, run for office, etc. |

National Service might be a better requirement with the military as an option. The military should also be given the option of declining those they do not want (not just because gay or black or Irish but say someone is mentally incompetent or just plain too dumb for the military) |

No, No one should be required to serve.
Could you imagine the nightmare that would cause! Let alone the training issues.
All Required, All are not eligible... |

Assuming they were Mentally, Physically and Morally qualified, I would have no problem with that.
As for the people who claim a draft is unconstitutional, they don't have a clue! |

No way. It has to be a personal decision. Do you want to be on a ship with 600 people and more than half of them against they're will? Not everyone is cut out to be in the military. |

israel does, we have more then enough people willing to fight for america, if not when a war is illegal and unethical drafts work in a pinch bush was lucky that so many joined the national guard after 911 to fight a war that should have been fought by the military, not those who are supposed to secure OUR borders. |

I'll keep it simple. I don't want to give a gun to someone who does not want to be there. Other people have listed other good reasons as well. I just think it would add more problems then what good it would really do. |

I believe that the second you are born, you owe your parents a debt. I believe the second you walk outside, you owe your country a debt. Everyone should pay that debt, but no one should have to in a country where insuring freedom is the motto.
If you don't want to carry a gun, there are plenty of other organizations that help and I think that people should be required to do a certain amount of "federal community service". This does not mean military. |

No. Military drafts are unconstitutional IMO. It is Involuntary servitude. |

Isn't that basically what the "GIVE Act" is about in a nutshell?
And no it isn't right. |
