yea...that's great except for one thing...
The pirates didn't try to hijack a US warship...they hijack cargo ships that are not armed.

There's a lot of rules that have to be followed my friend. You can't just go out blowing up whatever you see fit. There's a little thing called RULES OF ENGAGEMENT. If we didn't use these rules, the libs would throw a sh!!!t storm!
Yes, the navy COULD blow that dingy to hell and back. What about the captain? This is how it will go down;
The Navy will circle the ship and keep guns trained on it in shifts of 8 to 12 hours. After about 3 to 4 days the pirates will not be given ANY demands and will return the captain of the Maerch Alabama to the Destroyer and be taken prisoner. They will be held in the forward windbreak of the ship and offered food, water and shelter until the ship either turns them over to their prospective government or brings them back to the Destroyers homeport of Virginia for interrogation. That's what will happen. The captain could make another break for it making matters easier but I doubt it. There's a process to be followed in these matters. There's more at stack than just a captain and a crew. There are nation's eyes on this situation and the way we handle it. |

Gee here's a thought, the pirates didn't attack a US warship. They attacked a freaking cargo ship. And they also happen to have an American hostage. Get the hostage back and then it's okay to light them up.
SEALs don't blow up boats bud, they blow up bridges and stuff. The Navy has little things called planes and cannons and missiles that are easier than sending in a team of guys on a boat. |

They don't want to kill the American citizen in the process. Wrap your brain around that. |

I believe that the life of the hostage is the prevalent problem right now. We negotiate until we get the hostage back or they kill him.
There is always the chance of some type of rescue. They won't tell you what is planned.
The hostage takers are in a bit of a bind too. If they kill the hostage they're pretty much screwed. |

The major point has been missed. There is an American Citizen being held hostage.
We could vaporize the thing in a second.
Hopefully you would value his life as much as if it was your father, brother or any family member that was being held hostage. As well as the lives of other hostages that the pirates hold in various locations.
It has never been the policy of our military to jeopardize or deliberately cause the death of our own citizens.
If you don't care then move to Israel where they don't care and just kill to make their point. |

The pirates sink their dingy when they board the ship. All those ships out there are merchant ships and we can't sink them because apparently their cargo is more important than a civilian captain.
If Clinton had just unleashed the hounds in 1992 we wouldn't be having these problems. Arguably it might have prevented 9/11.
Yes they killed 18 Rangers but we killed 500 and wounded another 2000 and that was in just one night. we could have taken the whole country in 2 months. |

No, not at all.
PT boats were extremely effective against larger ships, because they are faster. Destroyers can't catch speed boats, it's a simple fact. Torpedoes, missiles, planes, etc... are not effective against speed boats because they are too small and maneuverable. You have to get in close and use machine guns or smaller arms against them, and as I noted earlier, the little dingys are faster. |

Yes, the U.S can do that but they have 4 hostages.
And the U.S just doesn't want to blow up the Somalian port and kill 4 other innocent people.
So we have to clearly know what they want and if what they want is reasonable enough.
The United States won't let Pirates get in the way of peoples lives. |

Yeah, the Navy is that powerful, however, there is a lot of red tape that you have to go through before just randomly firing on ships.
If we didn't have regulations, America would be the only one with ships int he world, since we would have needlessly destroyed all of the ones from every country in the world. |

Except the nearest U.S. Navy ship was some three hundred miles away, well out of weapons range. The Google Earth and Google Maps satellite views are are generally a couple of years out of date and not really useful for this type of thing. I'm sure though that there are intelligence collecting satellites over Somalia right now taking pictures. |

Just blow the thing out of the water, with the captain. It'll send a clear message. Russian-style

It has nothing to do with the ability to do it. They are rendered impotent by the leftist leaders of our country who refuse to engage the enemies of this country. Piracy is an act of war. Not a domestic crime. Why is the FBI involved? Blow their lame *sses out of the water and the problem will be over. |

Yep, but we sit here softhearted and try to negotiate. Hell, back in the day we would have already killed them. We need to show them that if you **** with us we will ******* kill you.
