I wouldn't think so. The current military is "all volunteer." But desperate times call for desperate measures. With Iran posturing for a nuclear standoff, the atrocities in Africa, Iraq continually spiraling towards civil war and all the other places calling for American Military aid, it could happen. Who would have thought we would go into Iraq for nonexistent wmd's?

I love all the inaccuracies in these answers.

First off, we aren't going to war with China. We have an economic relationship.

Next, there will be no draft. This will be for a few reasons. This war is already massively unpopular. The GOP leadership in Congress is asking for the President to provide Congress with an update of Iraq every 30 days. Can you imagine how unpopular Iraq would be if people were forced to go?

NO one wants the draft reinstated. Congress doesn't. The President doesn't, and I'm pretty sure all of those running in 2008 don't, either (Democrat & Republican). Americans certainly don't want it reinstated, since we'll be the ones who have to go. I assume the majority of Republicans don't want a draft; I can certainly tell you that Democrats don't want one.

As far as Iran, in a roundabout way, they ARE cooperating with the U.N. I can only hope that the leadership has learned from Iraq, and will let the U.S. run it's course before we do anything.

We will never see the draft again. basically it would ruin the career of whom ever wanted to put it into play. Look how divided this country is on abortion, what do you think would happen in a draft. People speak of losing so many soldiers over there. We have basically had minimal casualties in this war based on the length. 3000 soldiers in 4 years is a very low rate compared to other wars. Everyone wants to compare this to Vietnam and we lost 56,000 in that war. This shows how low our numbers are.

Yeah, go ahead and move somewhere else. Just remember the reason you can write your question is because of all those men and women who were drafted and fought, lost their lives for your freedom and your right to exspress your feelings. Perhaps we do need a draft. I can tell you that if we were to get into an all out war with someone like China or Korea, we would have to have a draft. But, to get out of it, you could send your kids to Canada and that is fine by me. Freedom is not a right, it must be earned. I know that some of you peace lovers will disagree, but again thats fine by me. As the saying go's, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the sun. Or in this case, if you don't apprciate what the cost was for your freedom, go somewhere else.

No... the last thing we need is a draft. The members of the military, for the most part, want to be doing what they do and have volunteered to do it. Throw in a bunch of people that don't want to be in the military, don't want to be in a war, and all h_ll will break loose. The old farts like Kennedy and Murtha keep saying this is like 'Nam... it will be if they bring back the draft.

Dont Kill the messagner but YES. We will because sometime this year we and Isreal will make a strike on IRAN. They have to. The country of Iran is moments from being able to deliver a NUKE. This will mean the U.S. and Isreal will use the new Nuke "bunker busters". All this is going to happen. Really. We will then need a draft to shore up forces domestic. I look for more of a reserve type draft. Part-Time if you will. I pray this doesnt happen, But we are within 4-9 months from the strike.

America's current president has this penchant for war, he is not the smartest president in US history and this has been proved once and again. I believe the people have the right to resist harmful actions like obligatory drafting to go fight more wars no one wants anymore. Especially if these wars are instigated by one paranoid individual.
I have never before seen the USA fall so low, maybe it is time to change. The power resides in the people, it is not like Americans to cringe just waiting for the draft.

There is no way there will be a draft for this "war". Congress would have to approve and its now 50 percent democrat. It is not going to happen.

In a way they already do! While some enlist out of patriotic notions, many more enlisted because money for college and job opportunities were nil for their age group. Poverty and lower middle class is the draft notice. Shame.
I doubt they will do a selective service draft. If you brother is an only son he doesn't have to go.

i know, my brother and my sister are both 19 but i dont think they'll do that. besides, if they do, run to Canada.

Well , if the war escalates and lasts long enough , there won't be the troops they need to fight . There won't be the volunteer's
they need so the draft will have to be brought back in order to fill the military numbers . Thank you Mr Bush .

If the Democrats have their way, then yes. But I don't think an Republican President will ever let that happen. A volunteer Military will always be more effective than a forced one.
