I think that all depends on any further military conflict. If so, then yes I do think the draft will be brought back.
With that said, some are saying we already are having the draft by forcing ppl to stay beyond their time. |

yes, eventually. I hope my family is too old by then. But as all things go in this country, people with $$$$ and influence will get out of it and the lowest income citizens will be lambs to the slaughter |

I'm sure they'll announce it far enough in advance for the runners to seek refuge in Canada. |

No, It would be a very unwise move politically, and I don't think either party is willing to risk it. |

hey you

no, the military and government for that matter are all about saving money as far as personnel go and a draft would cost much more than it is worth in this day and age. that is why we want volunteers. the theory of the people wanting to be there. |

its possible! but i dont the american people will stand for it! i think there will be an uprising all over the country! |

Do you people even read the other questions on here? This was just asked like a week ago! Well anyways no. Read up about what has to be done before a draft can be put in place. You might also want to take a look at the size of each military branch, active, reserve, and inactive reserve. From those three types of service members and the branches if there aren't enough people wanting to fight, the US and every other country is in serious trouble. |

Unless we get a new president soon (or Bush totally reverses his foreign policies/wartime ideas) probably.
Sorry to say, but our boys are dying . . . and Bush is prob. going to make this into something that if it doesn't become WWIII will closely resemble it. He'll need more of our boys to do his bidding.
I think my mom had it right when she said that the heads of two warring nations should sit down and play chess to decide a war.
That way there's no unnecessary killing, injury, or harm to the environment.
After all, it's frequently the heads of state who have probs. with eachother, not your average Joe.
If Bush has a prob. with somebody, he should man-up and handle it himself. |

I swear...how many times is this question going to be asked and answered. Don't any of you young people check into this on your own.
Refer to SB89..Universal Service act introduced Sen Hollings... a DEMOCRAT from SC.
Refer to HR 163 ...same tile introduced by Rep Rangel also a DEMOCRAT from Michigan. Both have been introducted since 2003. The House Resolution died again and again in committee and Senate Bill 89 is being held up in committee. Also, the primary reason for their failure is that they require ALL citizen between the ages of 18-26 to serve...to the obtuse that means women will be also be drafted.
Pull up these bills and read them for any additional information. |

Not if they offer the incentive to illegals to join the army and see the world, and when their four year enlistment is up, they become qualified for citizenship or legal residency.
This would give the armed forces the man power they need, even if another conflict were to start, and we could still claim to have a volunteer army. |

The U.S. milirary is closing bases and if they wanted a draft they would keep those bases open. The U.S. still has a million person military which consumes about 25% of the federal budget. |

Well there are people in place to be on local draft boards if the need arises. Personally I would like to see the draft come back. Why should those on the bottom end of the econmic ladder, the minories, do all fighting and dieing for those of us in the middle classes and up?
By the way. I was drafted in 1969 and served in Vietnam. I'm white, from a working class, lower middle class family. |

Have no doubt about it. We are headed straight into world war 3. There will either be another terrorist attack soon, or Bush will find adequate reason without one to bomb Iran. Then look out! |

If I was able to I would serve my country again.I'm proud of my service in the US Navy.If there was a war an old man like me, 60s, could still contribute something. Many have fought for this country and many have died. Then we have the Clinton and Fonda group. |

Bound's hubby here:
This past February or March, a bill was introduced in Congress to re-introduce a draft; however, ths draft bill was unique in that it included women in the draft proposal. It has yet to pass, but I would suspect if enlistments and re-ups continue to slide, we will see a draft in place before the close of 2007! |

I DON'T THINK THEIR WILL BE ONE BUT IF THERE WAS TO BE ONE SO MANY OF ARE YOUNG WOMEN AND MEN WOULD BE CONSIDERED A - WALL IT WOULDN'T BE FUNNY! YOU CAN'T MAKE PEOPLE FIGHT IN A WAR THEY DON'T BELIVE IN OR DON'T WAN'T TO! |

Answering the millionth question about reinstating a US draft - We in the military do not want or need a draft! We have a highly trained volunteer force. Why would we ruin that with a ragass unmotivated draftee force? It would ruin the Army. |

Not until after the election, for the repuglicans to initiate a draft would be political suicide. They already have cut their wrist but they can survive that but the draft would put them down for a long time. |

I hope so. We need about a half million more boots on the ground in Iraq if we're ever going to win. (the number we should have gone in with) |
