Sure, if we allow them to intervene when the illegals come across. |

The Border Patrol is designed to just that. Why would you want war fighters doing that job instead?
I guess if you want to also train the military in law-enforcement, put them in non-combat positions, and add more to their plate... but why not just expand the Border Patrol? I don't get it.
And as a response to the person that says the Border Patrol isn't allowed to do anything - do you think that they are going to allow soldiers to do what they were trained to do? Engage and destroy an opposing force... made up of a Mexican mom trying to sneak her three kids across the border? Sorry, it just isn't going to happen. We'd be better off issuing Border Patrol agents an M16A2 with M203s and CS rounds if you just want to make them look scarier.
Lardiver: That war you can't remember occurred before Canada was a country. Might want to learn a little history before you start claiming military victories for your country before it even existed. And on top of that, it was a fight between British colonist and Britain at that point in history. It was all just North America back then. |

No.First, its against the law. Second, we need to add many more like thousands of Border patrol agents, and give them the same training as the military. That way they can handle the dangerous border. Also, put these agents along the whole border, just not in sections or use more cameras. |

The problem is in order for troops to participate in domestic affairs (other than national emergencies) the president has to approve a full scale military involvement down there (I doubt that will happen w/ Bush or the next President.) Then there will be a legal mess about how troops cannot be used to enforce Federal laws and Immigration laws, etc. There are some National Guard troops working in support of the Border Patrol. However, if there is an increase in shootings down there and the Border Patrol is out manned and out gunned then yes send in the troops. I'll volunteer to go down there if needed. |

No, thats the Border Patrols job unless the soldiers are going to be given open ROE to shoot on site. |

No, that would be a waste of manpower. Our soldiers are needed for defending our country and our policy is to bring the fight abroad. We have police and homeland security that are capable of manning the borders. The problem of illegal immigration can be solved when the powers that be enforce the laws on the books. That means that we should put an end to "Sanctuary Cities" and jail our officials (Mayors, Governors, police chiefs) who "look the other way" because are afraid of offending there constituents. |

No, we shouldn't. It wouldn't hurt however for you to learn some proper grammer and spelling. |

It sounds like a good idea, but it is not allowed by law. It violates the Posse Comitatas Act, which does not allow any federal military personnel or equipment to be used for civilian law enforcement unless Martial Law is declared. The National Guard can be used because it is a state militia, however, the National Guard is not a full time force. |

Only if we are going to allow them to open fire on any foreign national who invades (and make no mistake about it, it is an invasion) our sovereign territory. Why is it that this is the easiest solution to this problem, yet no one will talk about it?
and for all you Border Patrol people..... Those agents are not allowed to do a damn thing down there and you no it. Putting more bodies there is not going to accomplis anything unless we give them the freedom to act. Yelling in spanish and pointing flashlights are not going to make desperate people stop and think "hmm, maybe I should listen to that guy." |

It's better that they be here than fighting and dying in other countries for no good reason. |

i dont get why every1 is so hostile about the border.... first thats the border potrols job not the militarys. second the border "problem" is not nearly as bad as its been hyped up to be. i've lived here all my life and i know. yes illegals do get through sometimes but as far as a terrorist threat? i very much doubt it. not saying its impossible just unlikely. and i gotta tell ya..that wall idea ( and the stricter entrance laws) is pissing people down here off. it's gonna hurt the economy which does depend on shoppers from mexico who come here on weekends and spend tons of money. i get both sides, i really do, but take a step back and look at the real likelyhood of any danger and you will see it's just not there. border potrol btw has been vamping up thier recruting efforts. the commercial ( seen in theaters) is way cooler than any military one i've seen. and they are offering great benifits. its a good career move for someone young. |

Yea, good luck... How would recruitment look after a couple years of that..?? "we're gonna send you to the Canadian border so you can freeze your azz off and twiddle your thumbs 24 hours a day"..
No, I don't think we should do that.. Soldiers are at the Southern Border only, where they are needed for now.. |

yes you should, especially along the Canadian border, you got ta protect your selfs from them Canadians, you never know what they are up to.and you don't want to lose another war with Canada like you did in 1800 & somthing. |
