Does America have the will to defeat terrorism?

The people that are and have served in the Military have the will but the country is not behind them in an appropriate manner. Our country thinks that fanatics can be reasoned with and have forgotten the lesson learned during WWII.

of course. our men our strong, we value life but the terrorists want to die to go to mecca or whatever. my bf is now a marine and i know a few now and they have wonderful will power but with all the liberal media, one accidental slip and they have a lawsuit so they have to watch a lot that they do but i believe we can win this war.

Some of us do, but I think Osama was right when he said America does not have the stomach to fight a protracted war.He was counting on the likes of Pelosi, Reid.Kennedy ,Schumer, ect. to sell America out for political gain

YES! We either have the will or we will all be bowing to the east 5 times a day! This is not conventional war, this is for the heart & soul of each of us. They must think that because we are not fanitics we will not fight, guess they have forgotten all of the wars we have already fought. No, we did not win all of them, but this is a diffferent situation altogether. We didn't have to win in Korea or Vietnam, it was a choice to continue fighting or just go home; we had nothing to lose by just going home, so we did. Every thing these terrorists believe in goes totally against our way of life & our Constitution. It is the 21st century's Crusade.

I know that Pelosi, Reid and their ilk don't. They are ready to surrender to Al Quaida right now. I think the only ones who have that will are the members of the military, and Reid has already attacked the military. Didn't you read his comments? Reid is a traitor to the US

no because the war on terror is a never ending war. it is not a war against a country or part of a country it is a war against certain people with certain beliefs. no one knows exactly who and where all the terrorists we are hunting down are located. we only know the leaders of the terrorist groups but we don't know who is involved with every terrorist organization. so the war on terror can never end until every single extremist is killed in every country in the world

It's not a question of will.

One can have the will to do something, but keep going about it in stupid and counter-productive ways.

The better question is, does American have the intelligence and humanity to defeat terrorism.

The question is rather how do we define terrorism. The Bush Administration now calls environmentalist terrorist. So the problem with a bumper sticker is that we can paint any one we do not like as a terrorist.

Rather the question is to we have the will to defeat radical Islam and bring peace to a troubled area,

If we can do that then we can have real defined goals

1) Victory in Afghanistan: This means that the Taliban is defeated and the democratic government secure. The Taliban is outlawed the same way the Nazis are in Germany

2) Victory over El Quida: This means that Osman Bin Linden and his key personal are dead or capture and the financing for further crime is cut off. This victory is much more akin to defeating the Mafia then defeating an army. We need to in the words of Deep Throat "Follow the Money" even if it leads, as it likely will, to our friends in Saudi Arabia

3) Victory in Iraq: More complicated, on the one hand we have won by ousting Sadamm, now we need to bring all the three major fractions to the table and assist them as they negotiate a peace. This victory is a combination of political where we meet with ALL people from the area including Syria and Iran and Military where we act as a peace keeping force. This will not be easy. Here Democrats are wrong to think we can just leave. We can;t we cause a problem we need to fix it, and Republicans are wrong to think we can achieve victory without diplomacy

4) Victory in the Region: The cool thing is if we are big enough to reach out to Syria and Iran and negotiate a peace in Iraq, and we defeat the money flow to El Quedia we may be able to pull together enough good will to force Hamas and Israel to the table and with all the players in the region involved: Jordan, Egypt, Saudi, Iraq, Syria, and Iran find a peaceful two state solution to the Palestrina problem

Of course this will take leadership and nerve and humility and the ability to compromise and the ability to lose some to win more from American leadership. And given the current crop of hatred on both sides of the American spectrum, this is a lost cause. Which is s a shame because all of this is within our ability if we would just stop hating each other. If we could get past GW's lack of an IQ and Bill Clinton's need for a BJ. Ah but that is asking too

I find this a retorical question, you cant defeat terrorism as it can come from anywhere at any time, its completly unpredictable.

The question is a trick. Terrorism has almost always existed and will always exist as long as there are any peoples that are disenfranchised who feel there are is no other alternative to them. America will not be defeated by terrorism as in order to do so it (terrorism or a specific terror organization) would have to become at least almost as large as the United States and therefore would turn into "the establishment" against which others would fight. Terrorism will always have to be controlled and cultures which allow no other constructive outlet for expression or action other than violence will need to change. Otherwise, in today's world if an organization becomes a certain amount organized and establishes advanced communications in a technical world and draws attention to itself it will be targeted by super powers with the assets to track down and apprehend them. Despite public wrangling between super powers and other nations almost all nations globally assist each other in controlling terrorism.

No. We could easily stop all terrorism by stopping US imperialism. The corporate CEOs who run America would never allow this.

Many Americans think that if we kill enough people we can stop terrorism. But every time we kill a terrorist, we create several more from his friends and family members.
