Does Force Recon still exist?

Last year I was told that they were deactivated in like 2006. Then when I was tellin someone on Y!A that they were deactivated, someone said that they were reactivated last december. Then when I ask a question about Force Recon, Im told that only their reserves exist. So whats the story on them?

Yes, Both the 1st and 2nd Marine Divisions deactivated 1st Forecon and 2nd Forecon in Feburary and March of 2006.

Members of the unit were moved to staff MARSOC or moved to newly formed D companies in the division recon battalions.

Forming Deep Reconnaissance Platoons (DRPs).

But in October 2008 the D companies with both 1st and 2nd Reconnaissance Battalions were redesignated as Force Reconnaissance Companies

So now the Marine Corps has both, MARSOC which is under United States Special Operations Command.

And Force recon which is assigned to I MEF and II MEF

Yes, they do, most of them are east coast out of Lejuenne and Quantico. But there are a few in Pendleton.
