You need to get updated on your 'facts'. The real reason, of course, is that Saddam invaded Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to take over the Middle East oil supplies. He refused to abide by the conditions of the temporary cease-fire, so President Clinton made it official US policy to remove Saddam by force. In 1998, he created the Iraq Liberation Act and got Congressional approval to follow through.

Clinton's shock and awe bombing campaign failed but the policy was never revoked. So, Al Gore and GW Bush both campaigned on the promise to finish the job. Bush got Congressional approval again and got the job done.

here's what doesn't make sense to me; on 9-11 we were attacked by terrorists from Saudi Arabia, Syria, and elsewhere. In response to that attack, we invaded Iraq who had absolutely nothing to do with 9-11. What's with that???

Yes, you are right like so many others who are wondering what it is all about.There are so many other reasons behind the scenes that we ( the public) do not know about....But at the end, it is all about the money/economics and creating the opportunities for them...People will find out the real truth in years to come.

You are right my friend. The War in Iraq does not make any sense at all. This war is mass genocide of the innocents (The REAL Holocaust) by the power hungry Bush Administration in their botched up screwed thinking to create a so called "New World Order" BUT it has backfired. Bush and his henchmen in the White House have killed more innocent people in Iraq than Saddam Hussein did in his entire life as the leader of Iraq. Saddam was what he was because that was the only way he could hold the Iraqi Nation together. I guarantee you that Americans will come out of Iraq being compared to Saddam Hussein ONLY worse with nothing to show or accomplished except having been the main instrument in the destruction of a Nation. Americans have lost their self respect and leadership because of this maniac in the White House who is on an ego trip. Then his henchman Cheney another Clown & Joker is only interested in supporting his buddies in Halliburton who do not care how many innocent lives are sacrificed to fill will their coffers with looted wealth. In the next two years watch how many people in this Administration get indicted. I would not be surprised at all if Bush & Chenney get impeached before the end of their term.

While we are on this subject let us not forget about Bush's underwear Tony Blair. I think this B & B (Bush & Blair)Gang should be brought up against the International Court in Hague and charged with "Crimes against Humanity". For sentence they should be let loose in Tora Bora as practice targets for Al Qaieda and Taliban.

I do not understand who are we to go into somebody's house and invoke our own rules. This is eactly what we are doing in the Middle East. We talk about voilation of human rights etc etc and all the crap while in fact we are really there to rob these people of their ONLY wealth OIL! OIL!!OIL!!!. We really do not care about Democracy. Just look around us here in America, rich are getting richer, poor are getting poorer and the middle-class that is the center of the economic machine is being outsourced so that few at the top the RICH can run this Country as they wish THUS DICTATERSHIP. Have we not come a full circle? Back to the dark ages with war looming around the corner as we go pissing off Countries like IRAN, SYRIA, NORTH KOREA and VENEZUELA.

It is time we kick these right wing, self centered idiots out of the White House and bring some sanity to our foreign policy. We are not alone in this World. There are other people living on this Planet and have the right to do so as we do including enjoy the way they want to live and enjoy fruits of this Planet. We should learn to dialogue with them and respect their cultures and beliefs.

Have we forgotten "LIVE and LET LIVE"

Completely agree with "speakeasy" answer. I was part of the Navy task Force sitting in Dubai in 1998, waiting to attack and invade Saddam, and we were very surprised when it was called off after a few misslies where fired at him, since under the terms of the cease fire of 91 Saddam had just crossed over the "line" and was due to be removed by us. Problem was clinton didn't have the balls to do it, where Bush did. The 2003 invasion was due from the later 90's!

Keep believing the propaganda the media uses. The war in Iraq is unpopular because of the media. The only thing you hear on the news are the deaths and defeats. Nothing ever good. The military have made several achievements in this war. It will still be a long time until we can withdraw from Iraq.

The U.S. has located some 500 chemical weapons in Iraq since 2003 with more likely to be found, according to two Republican members of Congress trumpeting a newly declassified portion of a government report.

"We have found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, chemical weapons," Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., said at an afternoon news conference.

Santorum read from a declassified portion of a report by the National Ground Intelligence Center, a Defense Department intelligence unit, which noted: "Since 2003, coalition forces have recovered approximately 500 weapons munitions which contain degraded mustard or sarin nerve agent. Despite many efforts to locate and destroy Iraq's pre-Gulf War chemical munitions, filled and unfilled pre-Gulf War chemical munitions are assessed to still exist."
