Does Starbucks support the war and its troops?

Does Starbucks support the war and its troops?

Odd question I know, but I read something that said:

Recently Marines in Iraq wrote to Starbucks because they wanted to let them know how much they liked their coffees and to request that they send some of it to the troops there.

Starbucks replied, telling the Marines thank you for their support of their business, but that Starbucks does not support the war, nor anyone in it, and that they would not send the troops their brand of coffee.

Its not true. That statement was made a looooong while ago.
Starbucks sends bunches and bunches of FREE coffee to the troops who are deployed, and on base the vendors come in every week to restock at our stores and very much appreciate the military business and revenue we brought in.
There was an article on that in yahoo, the soldier who said that was demanding pounds of coffee for himself to send home. He made a public apology.

Starbucks supports the troops. Here's a link to the Company's site regarding the negative rumor:

I would be careful about that one. Sounds like an internet hoax.

NO public company in America would go out of its way to offend any group of people like that.

Steve
sounds bogus to me. If Starbucks doesn't support the war they would have simply ignored the letters. Why would a successful business want to create bad press for themselves by making such a controversial statement publicly.

Commons sense says this story is crap.

Snopes says no

Well I'm a soldier and at Fort Lewis there was a Starbuck's on post, and also in Kuwait at the base there. Sounds like a hoax.

Starbucks is a business, they support making money. If you know someone who likes starbucks, by all means send them some, but I think in general, any business is just trying to stay neutral in the war effort.

I'd take that with many grains of salt. I don't care for Starbucks, but they are in business and try hard not to irritate people for no good reason.

YES they do support our TROOPS. I went to the local Starbucks and asked about any donations to send overseas....they gave me a TON of coffee.

you're an idiot, this is an email hoax

If you read that somewhere, then, I'm sure you'll be able to show us where it's at.

Starbucks and Target are anti-military. Target showed their butt a few years ago, because they wouldn't support Toys for Tots with the Marines. I don't drink Starbucks coffee and I don't buy goods at Target.

Bryan
I don't know if it is true or not, but I do know that Starbucks refused to participate in donating coffee to be sent to the troops in a drive a few months ago. I doubt very seriously if they would state publicly that they don't support the soldiers though. Whether they support the war ot not, to not support the troops would be disasterous position to take from a business standpoint. It is much more likely that they just stated that they do not donate to any of these types of causes.

Edit: Here is a link I found regarding this story. It has a good explanation of what happened and does show that the whole affair was an honest mistake.

I used to work for Starbucks, and I've never heard of anything like this...however, it doesn't sound far fetched at all.

Doesn't suprise me at all. Starbucks is run by a bunch of liberals.

cynicusprime
Who cares? The only thing that should determine whether or not you buy coffee from Starbucks is the quality and value of the coffee itself.

That's pretty cold. They get court martialled or jailed if they don't show up for the war. It's only ten percent who actually see combat, too. Those guys, I think I'd feel sorry for. Not all. But some. The military is like anything else, you got some really bad cases in there.

They're Arabica beans so it's like policy. The Intelligence groups would like to see the Saudi Royal family hanging from every lampost in Saudi Arabia.

Try to figure anything so convoluted as that!

This is an old story that happened when I was stationed in the Middle East when the war first broke out. I'm not sure how true it is but I can recall reading about it! Target is also another one that does not support military!
