My goodness...lots of bogus answers here! Upon joining, you'll be processed at MEPS forgot what that stands for (military entry processing station?). You'll get a full physical and yes, have your vision and hearing checked. Further, don't be discouraged by some of the uninformed posting answers here. The Air Force does have limits on how bad your sight can be, but it requires your vision corrected to 20/20 for pilot slots. |

ALL branches have an eye test.
If you aren't 20/20 some jobs (pilot for example) will be off limits to you, but you can still jjoin.
You can wear glasses as long as your vision is CORRECTABLE to 20/20. (Meaning you have 20/20 with your glasses on.)
That however can be a pain in some situations (you get special inserts for your gas mask for example, and yes they are free). Contacts are discouraged, if not forbidden when you are in the field. You can't loose a conact in a battle.
Lasik eye surgery used to not be accepted by the military, but I believe that has changed now, as Lasik has been proven to be safe over the long term. That can solve your problem right there, but talk to your recruiter first... I don't think anyone has any problem with it, but it might be one of those things where they won't take you if you have had it, but they won't kick you out if you get it once you are in. I honestly don't know. |

Every Branch requires an Eye Test |

All services give vision exams before you actually enlist. They also test your color vision. If your vision can be corrected, they will issue you glasses. Expense for contacts are out of pocket. |

All of them require an eye test. One is allowed to wear glasses or contacts, but I'm not sure what the vision requirements are. Good luck. |

You have to take an eye test. Your vision has to be correctable by glasses or contacts to 20/40, I believe (don't quote me on it, could be wrong, it's on the AF website though). But of course you can wear glasses and contacts! My husband vision is not so great either, he wears glasses and is a Crew Chief. |

They are do. You can wear glasses they issue to you in boot camp. Some jobs require better vision than others, but you will be able to get in if you just have bad vision. Pretty common problem for a lot of people. No contacts or personal glasses while in boot camp. |

I know that you will have an eye exam if you join the Army. My husband was near blind when he enlisted in the Army. He could not wear contacts while in basic training nor while he served in Iraq the first time. If you want to fly for the Army, they will allow you to have corrective eye surgery (LASIK or PRK). My husband had that done last year. I don't know how it is now, but they were allowing enlisted aviation personal have the surgery even if they did not want to fly, but I am not sure about other MOS's
Good luck to you!!
You can chat with an Army recruiter at http://www.goarmy.com I am sure they could answer all your questions there and they would have the most accurate information.....for the Army at least. |

Yes, you need to take an eye test for the Air Force, but I'm not sure if you can wear glasses or contacts. All I know is that you can't be color blind ( Courtesy to Little Miss Sunshine) |

No. The military does not require you to be able to see. I'm blind and just finished 30 yrs of service.
They implant a tiny microchip in your brain and they assign a person to tell you exactly where you are going and when to turn right or left. Noone could tell I was blind. I shot the wrong person one time but they blamed it on my interpreture. |
