12:00 ---> 13:00 --> 14:00 etc
12:00 ---> 1:00 --> 2:00
It's based on 24 hours and not two twelve hour periods. Midnight is 00:00 and begins the next day. 23:59 is the minute before midnight. The below poster is right. The easiest way is to subtract two from the second number.
16:00 is 4:00 pm. |

Subract 12 from it, you get 4. 4:00 pm
1600 hours = 4:00 pm
0600 hours, is 6:00 am
2300 hours = 11:00 pm |

1600 = 400
Basically anything after 12 noon is just adding another hour.
1200 - noon
1300 - 100pm
1400 - 200pm
1500 - 300pm
1600 - 400pm
2300 - 1100pm
0000 - midnight
The easiest way to remember is just subtract 12 from the military time you are given |

I was never good at that, so I just subtract 2 from the 2nd number, and I know that's the hour. So 1[6]00 hours - 2 would be = 4pm. |

There's nothing to it. Midnight can be either 2400 or 0000. A minute later, it's 0001 (never 2401). From 1 a.m. to noon, it's the same as you're used to, without the necessity of the colon in the middle. That is, 1147 is what you're used to calling 11:47. One p.m. is 1300, and the progression is the same from there; that is, just add twelve to the number instead of using the "p.m.," so 1600 is 4:00 p.m. |

You use the regular hours from Midnight to Twelve Noon. Ex: * AM would be oh eight hundred. Then you go from thirteen to 24 for the hours that cover the period of 1 PM to 12 Midnight.
And it isn't "military hours". The 24 hour clock is used by every nation on the planet except for us. Even third graders in the most remote village on the African continent know how to use it. |

It's very easy. It's just like a twenty-four hour clock. Just imagine the clock going around the face twice. Start at 1:00AM, which becomes 0100 Hours
Take another example of 9:00AM, that becomes 0900 Hours.
All you have to do is think of the day as 24 hours and imagine the watch face going around twice, going up to 24 instead of 12.
After going around once, you just add the current time to the previous 12 Hours.
Example: 9:00PM = 2100 Hours. Why? you take the time of 9:00PM and add the previous 12 hours to it.
Here is a link to a table so you won't get confused by more examples.

the time is based on 24 hours. so midnight is tricky - sometimes is 0000 (zero hundred) or 2400. 0100 is 1 am, 1300 is 1 pm, 1200 is noon. its its under 12, then its that time in the am, if its a number greater than 1200 (like 1600) then subtract 12 and take that number and put it in the PM, so 4 pm. and minutes are the same. |

Midnight = 0000 or 2400, Noon =1200
1:00 a.m. = 0100, 1:00 p.m. =1300
2:00 a.m. = 0200, 2:00 p.m. =1400
3:00 a.m. = 0300, 3:00 p.m. =1500
4:00 a.m. = 0400, 4:00 p.m. =1600
5:00 a.m. = 0500, 5:00 p.m. =1700
6:00 a.m. = 0600, 6:00 p.m. =1800
7:00 a.m. = 0700, 7:00 p.m. =1900
8:00 a.m. = 0800, 8:00 p.m. =2000
9:00 a.m. = 0900, 9:00 p.m. =2100
10:00 a.m. = 1000, 10:00 p.m.= 2200
11:00 a.m. = 1100, 11:00 p.m. =2300 |

easy..24 hour clock. the morning hours read as per civilian.. then just add one to any hour past noon.
1400 is 2pm.
1600 is 4pm
1800 is 6pm
etc and so on. |

Think it as 4pm so 1800 hours would be 6pm than 100 hours would be 1 am, and so on and so fourth tell you get to 1200 which would be 12pm if you hear 1850 that is 6:30 or so all military time is more an exact time! |

If its under 12:00 its the A.M
After 12:00 its P.M
16:00 is 4 pm because its 4 hours after 12:00
1:00 is 1 A.M
2:00 is 2 A.M
3:00 is 3 A.M
4:00 is 4 a.m
5:00 is 5 am
6:00 is 6 am
and so on

instead of telling time in incraments of 12 hours, you use all 24. For example 9 pm would be 2100 hours. In the case you have given it would be 4 pm. |

easiest way to remember is that if its pm add 12 if its am subtract 12. so 1600 would be 4pm. Remember at midnight u start over so midnight is 0001 and so forth |

12s 12s 12s.
over 12, minus 12. example 1800 minus 1200 equals 6. This is how I learned it so many years ago.
again, 2200 minus 1200 equals 10 or 10 pm. If the time is before 1200 (u don't minus anything), then it's AM or 0100 equals 1am, 0200hrs equals 2am and so on....
this is just another way and certainly not the best :)
Happy time telling. |
