Does anyone know what jarhead means (deals with military)?...and what is 08 hundred in military hours?

Jarhead is a Marine (a newly enlisted one who with his short haircut and usually protruding ears looks a little like a jar)

Military time is based on 24 hr time -- so 800 would be 8:00AM -- but 1PM would be 1300, 8PM would be 1000 (pronounced ten hundred hours)

There are two versions of where the term "Jarhead" comes from. The first has to do with the high and tight haircut and how it resembles a jar(head) especially when wearing the high collared dress blues. The second origin is that the Mason Jar comapny played a major part in manufacturing helmets for the marines in WW2. I believe that the Mason jar version led into the high and tight version.

Most people say it is because of their haircut-high and tight, closely cut around the ears giving the appearance of a jar.

Leatherneck magazine in 1933 cited Army soldiers as being called jarheads. However, according to limited information, the term as it applies to Marines is traced to the Navy in WW II. Sailors referred to Marines, drawing from the resemblance of the Marine dress blue uniform, with its high collar, to a Mason jar.

0800 equals to 8:00am. Take any time and either add 12 or take 12 away and you have the military time. All military time goes by the Zulu Time, which is over Europe.

Jarhead is a derogatory term marines call each other because of the mandatory haircut you have to wear. It basically means you're a grunt and you have the worst job in the military.

Jarhead is a nickname for someone in the United States Marine Corps. How they got that name I could look it up because I don't know. You might try googling jarhead and see what happens.

As for 08:00 hours is 8 o'oclock in the morning. The military uses, what I wish we all used, a true 24 hour clock. 22:00 hours is 10 pm. So it pretty much looks like the 12 hour clock you are used to but once you hit noon you merely ad 12 to the number on the cloc. Like one o'clock in the afternoon. You add 12 and 1 and get 13. That would mean it is 13:00 hours.
