I remember a story on 20/20 about 5 years ago(maybe even before that) of them showing a video where Soldiers were to stand at attention(this was in a barracks) by their bunk..and another soldier drove needles in each of the recruitee's chest(I believe this was BCT). And as the soldier drove the needle into their skin they screamed in pain..there was a Drill Sgt on the video too(telling by the uniform).
This doesn't happen anymore(that I know of) but does anyone know what happened to the soldiers & Drill Sgts that participated in that?

Texas guy is right, when promoted in the Corps everyone senior to you gets to punch your cheverons into your collorbone. When you made NCO you rated blood stripes on your dress blue trousers and because of this along with getting pinned you got kneed by every person outranking you in the thigh. Scuba bubbles and jump wings are also pinned

In the Marine Corps, this is a tradition done when a Marine is promoted. The pins in the back of the chevrons are pushed through and punched, a very painful initiation for the victim. It got cracked down on pretty good after that special. Those Marines got NJP, lost rank, etc. |
