Probably. See: ECHELON is a name used to describe a highly secretive world-wide signals intelligence and analysis network run by the UKUSA Community (otherwise described as the "Anglo-Saxon alliance") that has been reported by a number of sources including, in 2001, a committee of the European Parliament (EP report[1]). According to some sources ECHELON can capture radio and satellite communications, telephone calls, faxes, e-mails and other data streams nearly anywhere in the world and includes computer automated analysis and sorting of intercepts.[2] The EP committee, however, concluded that "the analysis carried out in the report has revealed that the technical capabilities of the system are probably not nearly as extensive as some sections of the media had assumed"

Yes they do thanks to the Pariot Act. They also allegedly use keyword triggers which basically flag e-mails and text messages etc for attention whenever they mention certain words e.g. terrorism, assination, President, etc etc etc.

If the world wanted to really over work the poor FBI we could simply use Terrorism and President in the title of every e-mail we send. The poor analysts would never get a break.

Yes, they have had access to all email traffic for the last five years.

JULY 2000: The FBI's new super fast system called CARNIVORE has been intact for over a year now. It's main purpose is to covertly scan millions of e-mail transmissions from suspected criminals and all public and corporate e-mail communications.

Of course this system is separate from the NSA system which is assumed to be more advanced.

It wouldn't be called the intelligence community if they didn't try an find out what were thinking.

Like all forms of communication, as has been shown in court proceedings against dealers etc., there are key words that get flagged. London an indeed all cities has voice recognition programs on payphones key words like Bomb will flag interest, not necessarily directly but your number and indeed your voice will be recorded. People don't have to sift through data, thats what computers are for.

I believe they do...there was a piece on the news tonight that outlined possible dangers over the holidays and that ALL internet traffic was being monitored.

Yes, research Habeous Corpus. And understand why McCain is the Republican front runner.

J. A. Prufrock
yes, but imagine how many they would have to sift through, just don't threaten anyone openly and you won't get on their list

Even if the say no, I think they do.,Naturally the reason is , in the interest of national security. This is a catch all reason for anything the U. S. Govt. wants to do without enacting legislation.

Yes, along with the CIA, MI5, MI6 & GCHQ.
All electronic media is 'captured' by filters linked to GCHQ(UK) & NSA(USA). Within the software are key words, phrases, names, addresses etc. When the data is streamed through the software it is archived for a while UNLESS a key word etc is included in the message. If it carries key data the message is highlighted & analysed.

Have you something to hide?

shrty0525
Yes. Certain words in an email can make the email go to the fbi.

99% of those are harmless. It's the 1% they need to catch.

So as long as you aren't planning something bad, don't worry about it.

The FBI can do whatever they want. Thanks to the patriot act.

OrangeCharlie
Yes but it doesn't bother me because I have nothing in my e-mail that would interest them. Nothing to hide.

No, but they can gain access if they have evidence that you're smuggling drugs or weapons, or something of that nature.
