I have heard from many people on this site that the SAS is the best special operations unit in the world and from some people in real life as well. Well, as an American I am a bit shocked because I was under the belief that the US had the best special forces in the world but I have heard people say the French, Australian and the Norwegians are right there with us.
So wait, I was wondering, is the UK really number one when it comes to having the best special forces in the world?

Ask an American and he'll say the SEALs are the best and give you a million reasons why.
Ask someone from the UK and they'll say that the SAS are the best because they were the original Spec Ops group.
Ask an Australian and he'll tell you that the Aussie SAS is better than the British SAS
People from other countries will say the same things. I've seen people make cases for Israeli and Russian Spec Ops groups.
The truth is that no one on here has a clue what they're talking about. They have no idea what kind of operations these guys really do other than one or two that might have become public. Everyone answers with bias depending on what country they are from. |

Britain and US I can say are the best (Israel, Aussies are probably up there too). But France? No. |

There is simply no way to judge who is better.
They all train pretty much exactly the same.
They all train with each other and even send their members on exchange tours to serve in other countries units for a couple of years.
Then you have different units that are tasked and train for different missions.
IE: Navy Seals and the British SAS, do not have the same mission, so exactly how do you even attempt to compare them? |

No. I think the only official United States counter-terrorism unit, dedicated to hostage rescues, counter-insurgency, and general counter-terrorism. They’re full name is 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta, managed by the Army, are.
The SAS has been harassing the bad guys longer than anyone else and they are in the top 10. |

The British S.A.S is by far the best special force in the world. Not only is it the most famous but it is the most disciplined and most highly trained operational service the world has ever seen.
The Russian Spetsnaz however provides them with competition as they are ruthlessly good and are more secretive which is always an advantage.
Either way the S.A.S are still the best as they train other special forces around the world. |
