Regular "drilling" Reservists do not get BAH - you'd only get it if you are on extended Active Duty orders.
And when you get it, there are no restrictions on how you use it. |

The short answer is: Sort of.
If you are in any branch of the Reserve you receive the Basic Housing Allowance (BAH) when you are on active duty orders. The problem is if you're on active duty for less than 30 days, you get a base-rate BAH that only takes into account your rank and whether you have dependents or not. If you do 30 days of continuous active duty or more, your BAH also includes a "cost of housing" increase that is based on the monthly cost of rental properties in the area you call "home." So when you do your 2-week annual tour, you get the basic-rate BAH (which isn't bad, but you could make a lot more doing 30 or more days of active duty, depending on where you live).
Also, if you perform duty in increments of less than 30 days, your BAH is pro-rated by dividing the monthly rate by 30 to determine the daily rate, then multiplying that number by the number of days you perform active duty. For example, if the monthly BAH for you is normally $900.00, that comes out to $30.00 a day. If you do your annual tour (which is usually 14 days) that's $420.00.
Finally, you don't get BAH or any other allowances when you do drill weekends. You get 50.5 cents per mile for one trip from your house to your duty station and back again, and you can also get reimbursed for lodging if you have to travel more than 100 miles one-way to get from home to your duty station. The reason for this is you actually get four days' worth of pay for two days of drill.
