Does this fact shock any of you?

It is a fact, that US citizen's who drink any amount of alcohol (64% of the US Population admits to drinking (and that is what statistic I use)) and 97% of US Citizens have admitted to drinking alcohol at any point in their life).

So w/ that 64%

If you are a US Citizen and you drink any amount of alcohol, you are at a greater risk of dieing than any US Military soldier, in any branch is, even in a time of war today.

Chance of dieing if you drink alcohol and are a US Citizen
=.514277%

Chance of dieing if you are in the US Military (Not including those killed in alcohol related incidents)
=.0636%

Seems like your job isn't that dangerous after all =/. When 64% of Americans put themselves at a greater risk than you do every day.

Not surprising. The military does not want you to die. Fact is, you cost too much money to train and equip to lose to something stupid.

That being said, don't tell me deploying, even outside of a combat environment is not dangerous. I don't give a crap what your statistics say.

Military people are just more proactive about risk management and prevention, unlike most civilians who do stupid things.

Also the comparison between the civilian and military sectors is like apples to oranges. The military is much smaller and controlled, whereas the civilian world is subject to much less restriction and discipline.

Not only that but people are morons when they drink. The more I think about it the more your statistics become meaningless and inconsequential.

And DO NOT tell me war is less dangerous now than before. That is one of the most ignorant things I have ever heard. You, Sir, should go visit the VA.

The professionalism and competence of the military is just light years beyond what is was even 10 years ago. I am resisting flaming you but it is hard.

Man I have been rollin the dice hard the last 20 years

I think you forgot something in there...like driving drunk or other risky behavior. Dying from what? And 64% in what time frame?
I drink almost daily, and I'm still here at 47.

But thank you for your service to our country. God bless and keep you safe.

Its a greater chance of death because you put yourself there with drinking. You could easily avoid that death by not over drinking. Its a solve able problem. just do not drink that much, and put more law enforcement on the roads to stop drunk driving.

You are right 64% of americans put THEMSELVES AT RISK of dying.
but thats there fault if they are not taking proper care of there life. When you wake up, you honestly do not have to worry about mortar attacks.

when you go to work, you do not have to worry about getting hit with a road side bomb.

when you walk in the streets, there is a very light chance that you will be bombarded with bullets.

you do not have to patch up soldiers or marines in the heat of combat. when you fly, there are no RPG's flying at you here and there.

but for the Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, and Air men, this could happen every day.

thats your fault if you over drink and kill yourself. you put yourself at risk, and your the only one to blame for that.
But US military personnel die for another reason, they die sober, and doping there job.

and you should be grateful our military is so well trained, thats why the death rate is so low. only if every citizen had military training.

but next time, just think about what you say.

Living in Chicago is more dangerous too but you can leave chicago anytime you want. If ordered to Iraq we can't say "No Im not going its too dangerous compared to Ft Walton Beach Florida". No so your point while factual it is frivolous.

Daniel
Statistics can be skewed to show anything. Statistics show AVERAGES, not a particular persons chance of dying. If a person drinks and is responsible, his odds of dying are very low, where a drunk drivers are much higher. You are making completely false assumptions on averages. You cant possibly say a man sitting at home drinking a beer is in more danger than someone in Iraq or Afghanistan.

You also implied that 64% drink every day, which you didn't say in the first part. Which is it? I highly doubt 64% of people drink ever single day.

Please learn statistics before you insult our military. Or better yet, don't insult them at all.

Anything can look smaller with a look at a bigger picture.

Q:What is the leading cause of death worldwide?
A: Starvation.

So, in that respect, if you live in the U.S. you're life isn't that hard. More people in the world are dying due to lack of food than due to alcohol and the military combined. BY A LOT.

Didn't you ask this question a few days ago before it got deleted? What do you have against service members; are you the ex spouse or girl/boyfriend of one and this is your way to vent?

Anybody can get drunk and do something stupid while drunk to get themselves or someone else killed. Can't say the same about a service member. Also, I seriously doubt half of the civilian alcoholics out there would be willing to go to the Middle East for any reason no matter how much money they were offered.

I'd believe it. A few weeks ago, I crunched some numbers regarding deaths in Afghanistan from last year.

When you compare the number of troops who die vs. the number of total troops deployed in the area, you get something like a 0.04% death rate.

So, since you said your chance of dieing from alcohol is 0.5...and 0.04% is much lower then that, then I would believe it.

That doesn't mean that the military job isn't "dangerous", and it doesn't mean it's not important.

People who drink alcohol do it for self-gratifying means. People who fight in wars do it for the country, their family, and everyone else.

Which is the more honorable way to die?

If it's so safe why don't you join?

I'm volunteering in picking up your legs. If we find someone
who's willing to carry the rest of you we might even glue you
back together.

USMC_Inspired
First off your going to die regardless of if you drink or not...

Secondly, alcohol if drank in moderation is good for you...

And Thirdly...Service members probably drink more than any other single group of people...so why would you separate that fact with your statistics?

"Chance of dieing if you are in the US Military (Not including those killed in alcohol related incidents)
=.0636%"

your gonna punch the ticket sometme, so what are you some recruiter trying to get some enlistments up to? I used to have them try to get me with "oh your more likely to die in a car crash than in Iraq.."

It dangerous being in the same country as scumbags who abuse alcohol and drugs....more dangerous than the military...just proves even idiots like you can lie with statistics

T.O.
No, these statistics don't surprise me due to the fact that military and war is not what it used to be. War used to be more dangerous than it is today. For example, we used to have sanitation problems, tear gas, weapons that would malfunctions, now we have moved up in the world however. I'm not saying that war still isn't dangerous, but it's not as dangerous as it once was.
