During boot camp....can you?

My husband has left for boot camp and will be at ft.benning ( supposedly one of the strictest bases?) i was just wondering from anyone who has been through bootcamp or any wives out there that have gone through this....about how often do they get phone calls (i know they are a very short amount of time) and do the army people there limit you to how many letters you can receive? what if my letters are 3-4 pages long, is there a restriction on that? anyone with some advice it is greatly appreciated! thanks in advance Additional Details wow only one call the entire time? thats crazy. his bootcamp is almost 11 weeks i was thinking like one call every 3 weeks or so but damn. anyways-thanks alot for the insight and no i wont but writing cutesy things, thankfully i know better than that. i just didn't want to be the crazy wife that sends the "thick" envelopes because my letters are so long haha oh well i guess i'll send the first one and if he writes back saying he got smoked cuz of me then i will know to keep it shorter next time! haha thanks again

Go to:
http://marriedtothearmy.com/army_basic_training_bct_guides.htm
Wives who had husband go through BCT and AIT at those bases answered a bunch of questions each about their experience. When they got the first phone call, first letter, how often they could talk... check it out.
I'd go through the website. It helped me out a lot when my husband was in BCT. It transitions you from civilian to army wife!
And there is no restriction on how many letters you write or how long they are! The first one I wrote was 26 pages!!! And I sent letters and cards EVERY SINGLE DAY! =) |

Your Soldier will get to call you from the reception station upon arrival at Fort Benning or any other training base in the Army. He will probably not have much access to phones until after the second week of training as that is the toughest part and the drill instructors want them to stay focused. by the Third week of training soldiers are in tune with the program of their training and are earning more privileges such as more phone calls, visits to the post exchange or shoppette, Soda.. yeah I know that seems silly. but as far as letters... you can write and send as many as you want. Nothing will motivate a soldier more than a letter from a loved one. I can tell you it is a lonely feeling at mail call when you don't get a letter. Even if it is just a note.. it is a great feeling for your soldier. they will not be as active in writing as their time is a bit more limited but they will try as hard as they can to let you know how they are doing. I get letters on a daily basis from soldiers I have put in the army while they are in training and at their duty assignments. Communication helps them cope with the stresses of their new environment. Good luck and keep supporting your Soldier!!! |

you can write him all the letters you want. there's no limit.
but i would discourage you from writing cutesy things on the envelope like 'i love you' or he'll have to do 20 push ups per word.
as for phone calls, i'm not sure how they do it now, but when i went through marine corps bootcamp, we got one call the entire time.
it may be different now, but that's how it was when i was in. |

there shouldn't be a limit to letters you write to him, though he might not have time to write back... he might get a few phone calls... my husband is in the Marines and we went through that... though i hear Army boot camp is different than Marine boot camp. Good Luck! and stay strong.. |

Trainees going through basic are required to have at least one phone call during training. Most have more, but it depends on their DI how often they can call. The amount of time they can talk depends on the DI and how many other people are waiting to call their families. Oh, and he'll appreciate letters as often as you can send them, trust me. He may not be able to write back as often, because he won't have much free time, but he'll probably be stressed and lonely and letters from home are great. |
