E-6 Husband going to DRB?

Ok so i dont need any mean remarks, my husband has been an OUTSTANDING sailor, he made an honest mistake....he is going to DRB this afternoon for gun decking, he has never been to DRB, CO Mast or anything ever.
His charges are for gun decking...he did not intentionally gun deck when i say it was a honest mistake thats what it was. he signed off on something he was 100% sure was checked...ok i get it NO MATTER what anyone tells you....you take the time to check.
however his ship is filled with self serving people and really have no respect for anyone on board. we have a new CO that was prior enlisted and seems like a decent CO.
can anyone tell me with a comand that does not give a rats *** about their sailors and would rather hang their own out to dry then to ask questions how bad this is going to get?
i'm not by any means dismissing what he did and niether is he, he knows he made a mistake we just dont think ship is going to believe him.
any help would be great.
