I was on active duty for four years, but I got out and joined the reserves so I could get a degree and become an officer.
I complete my degree in July and my ETS date from the reserves is also in July. Would it be easier to simply get out of the reserves and then talk to an active duty recruiter?
It would be easier to get my commission in the reserves. If I stay in the reserves I could probably get a direct commission, but if I go straight to active duty I will probably have to go to OCS. But I don't know if I could get commissioned in the reserves and then switch to active.
Any thoughts?

ok the only way your going to get a straight commission is if you are a doctor, lawyer, nurse or clergy. if you havent passed the bar, have a doctorate, your NOT getting a direct commission.
you can go to OCS in the reserves only if there is a 2nd LT slot available in your unit or in the area. you can go to OCS for reg ARMY as long as you otherwise are qualified. i just did an OCS packet last month for a prior service guy, whew was that alot of work. |

Goto OCS first then go in active duty, you should've taken ROTC while in college, but its too late now...if you did, you would get direct commission active duty or reserves as soon as you graduate. But best advice is talking with your army recruiter so he can guide you along. |

Go talk to a recruiter, but I would go straight to Active Duty. Moving from the reserves to active duty is as easy as redoing an enlistment contract. I don't even think I took a physical when I went back to active duty. |

After you deploy you're given the option of staying active. This is seriously the easiest way for a reservist to switch. That or a DD conditional release form. |
