Enlisting after grad.?

I'm still on the fence about what i want to do with the rest of my life. I'm seriously considering the military. More specifically the marines. Should I? Or should i go to college and then enlist - afraid i might not want to join after.
I really don't know.
help?

My son just enlisted in the Marine and he likes it. He gets schooling and along with benefits. After Marines he still can further his career or stay in the same field he is doing in the Marines. Only thing he does not like is away from family, however with Yahoo messenger we talk to him daily from Iraq. So it is not as bad.
Think hard either way you decide. |

I enlisted in the USMC and it was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. When I left, I was an E5, and I was holding the billet of Platoon Sergeant in an infantry unit.
One thing you can do is enlist in the Reserves, and when you get your college degree, you can do one of the commissioning programs and become an officer.
It's just an idea, but I know several people who went that route with really good success. |

well the smart thing to do is let the military pay for your collegebut whatever you want to do. the military is a great thing for anyone to do free healthcare for life and you could also retire and draw a check, but the army has the best benefits if thats what your looking for. it really depends on what your looking for the army has way for jobs than the marines |

You should not go to college and then enlist, that makes no sense either for yourself or for the Marines, as they have a far greater immediate need for young Lieutenants and Captains than for basic recruits. Go to College and apply for the PLC. It's essentially a paid summer internship. If you pass the course and then decide you don't want to accept a commission as a Marine 2nd Lieutenant on graduation from college, then there is no further military obligation. If you do accept a commission, you will have time in grade for pay purposes from the time of completing your first summer of OCS at Quantico.

Or if you go to a very high cost university and it has an nrotc battalion, consider commissioning through the marine option course. A "college program" scholarship will pay full tuition.

Calculate regular military compensation at the link. Location makes a significant difference due to the housing allowance(BAH.) Single Enlisted Sailors and Coasties ranking below E-5, Enlisted Marines and Soldiers ranking below E-7, Enlisted Airmen below E-4 live in the barracks and do not collect BAH:
http://www.defenselink.mil/militarypay/mpcalcs/Calculators/RMC.aspx
2nd Lt( Army, Air Force, Marines) = Ensign(Navy, C.G.) = O-1.
1st Lt( Army, Air Force, Marines) = Lt JG(Navy, C.G.) = O-2.
Captain( Army, Air Force, Marines)= Lt(Navy, C.G.) = O-3.
Advancement to O-2 around the 18th month.
Advancement to O-3 by about 42nd month
Good Luck! |

Well if you wanna be an officer, then do ROTC at college. If you don't wanna go to college join the USMC its the best. |

I actually plan on enlisting in the USMC in a year or so after I'm done with college.
To be an officer, a college degree is a requirement while a high school diploma is required to enlist.
Each side has its ups and downs so just learn about them and think about what you want. |

You have to think about what would make you happy. There will always be college after the military but you may want to go to college right out of high school. Try looking into an ROTC program if you want to try the Officer route it is a great way to go. But only you can decide where to go. Follow your own heart and take what people say lightly it is your decision in the end. |
