Evidence of tactics in the Battle of the Somme working and not working?

The tactics of the Battle of the Somme..
-German barbed wire cut & trenches and dug outs smashed.
-British troops being able to walk over no mans land and not run after a huge artillery bombardment.
-Carry over heavy trench repair equipment to rebuild and defend German trenches so they couldn't reclaim them
Is there any I haven't put?
& I need to know evidence on how they didn't work (such as not many people were killed because of the artillery bombardment so when the men tried to walk over, they had to run, and the barbed wire being like 30 Meters wide so it wasn't cut properly.) and how they did work?

1. German trench dugouts were very deep and extensive which is why so many German soldiers were able to survive the 7 day shelling without sustaining proportionate casualties.

2. The British used anti-personal shells in their initial bombardment rather than High Explosive. This is the main reason the barbed wire remained intact.

3. The British trenches were not built to endure the vast quantities of troops moving through them as the 2nd and 3rd waves followed the 1st. Many got lost and complicated command and control in the field.

4. The tactic of walking was meant to be so that control could be easily kept over the relatively poorly trained soldiers. The British army was very much a citizen one by the time of the Somme. The pre-war small but highly trained British Army was all but gone by 1916. Obviously, with hindsight this was a bad decision.
