Explain BAH? I'm new to the national guard?

Ok, so I have been trying to do some research, and am left pretty thoroughly confused. Both my husband and I joined about 4 mo ago, he joined as an e-1, I joined as an e-3. I have seen multiple sources which seem to say contradictory things, so I'm left a bit puzzled.
Q # 1) Who is considered a dependent. I read somewhere that if you are married you have a dependent, would we both have dependents then? Even if we are each others dependents?
2) BAH is paid to only those with dependents? T/F
3) will we both receive BAH?
4) BAH is only issued when serving full time 30 days or more, such as in basic or ait, correct?
5) is BAH paid only when living off base? What if we both live on base? what if one of us lives off? what if we both live off?

1) Dependents are spouse, children, parent. If you are both military you cannot be each other's dependents so therefore it would only be your children until one gets out of the military. You would get the BAH w/o dependents
2) Yes and no, to qualify for BAH normally you need to have dependents (spouse, child, parent) during Basic, AIT/A School/Tech School. If you are single then you are living in barracks and do not need to have a place back where you came from.
3) If you qualify for it, meaning you show that you have a rental house or mortgage you MIGHT qualify for it. But there is no guarantees because the Guard/Reserves is done differently
4). BAH is only issued when activated for more than 30 days, this includes Basic/Boot, AIT/A School or deployment.
5) You will not qualify for housing unless you are full time Reserve/National Guard, so therefore you will live off base. If you are full time and live in base housing then you would both receive BAH w/o dependents, the Sr member's BAH would go to housing and the Jr member's would be paid out. If you live in barracks you would not get BAH. |

Unless you are full time national guard (meaning you work at the armory Monday through Friday) you are not entitled to BAH. If you only drill once a month and 2 weeks in the summer you are not entitled to BAH |

you are not eligible for BAH unless you are activated for more than 30 days being Guard. you are not eligible to reside in Base Housing unless Full time Guard.
each of you woudl get BAH single when you are activated together AND authorized~as in you may be required to produce a lease or mortgage..because usually they provide all quarters for you. . if only one of you is activated then that one could get BAH w/D.
you cannot be each others dependent when both are activated. if there were kids then the senior can get BAH w/D if you were both to be activated at once( basically whoever has them listed on their Page 2) |
