My boyfriend is in the army and currently at Fort Lewis in Washington state. Hes been there for about a month now and Im starting to notice some distancing coming from him. I know he still loves me but the way hes acting is starting to frighten me. My question is if this distancing is normal for men in the military when they get to their units. Has anyone else experienced this with their husband/boyfriend? And if so, is there anything I can do to try and help him?

Is it's normal. They go through a lot and sometimes it's easier for them to just focus on their work, another thing is that some men use the distance as a coping mechanism. My husband just left on deployment a month and a half ago and he's doing the same thing. I know it's hard to deal with but don't change the way you act. Even if he doesn't always respond to e-mails, letters and such. He does notice and I am sure it helps him more than he shows. |

im in the navy and i do the same thing to my wife. its just a way to make things less emotional if hes anything like me its nothing to worrie about, just hard for you, stick in there |

Their lives totally change when they leave home. He's probably very busy, and meeting all kinds of new people, and experiencing new things. He could also be scared or worried about your relationship, or maybe feels like your distancing yourself too. The best thing you can do is reassure him about your feelings for him, and tell him you love and support him, and are proud of him. If it's meant to be, it'll work. It took a lot of work for my husband and I to get to where we are today, but we got there. It's important to be open with him. Tell him you're feeling a bit of distance between the two of you, and just let him know you support and love him. It'll help him more than anything else. Good luck. |
