Civilians form militias, not the military. There are quite a few private militias in backwoods areas, and I wouldn't trust most of them with a pea shooter. |

A militia is formed from civilian populace, not from the military. If the military mustered folks into any type of organization, it would be a new battalion, or brigade, or something.... not a militia.
The closest thing to compare might be the IRR (Individual Ready Reserve), in which soldiers who've finished their active duty time return back to "civilian life", but remain on a list, ready to be called back to duty if the need were to arise. |

Civilians can form a militia. The military can't. A militia is made up of civilians by definition. But if any country were to decide to make a militia, it wouldn't make much sense to me. Why use lesser trained soldiers instead of trained professionals? |
