I've been in the same town that I was born in, a little country town where I find myself wanting to get the hell away from. My sister has a husband in the army, and she has been talking to me about joining the Navy, or something of the sort.
I've thought about it before. I feel an obligation to do something for my country, I've thought about the Peace Corps as-well. But what is the Navy exactly? What are the upsides, or downfalls of it?
Agh. Just tell me what it is, or something. I'm really interested..
Additional information= I want to travel. I get uncomfortable being comfortable, or in other words, I seek change and adventure.

You say you want to travel, well you will travel more in the Navy than any other branch of the military. You will be at sea rougly 6 months a year where you will not have internet acess. By the looks of you profile pic, you are a good looking female. Guys will be all over you considering there on a ship with mostly males for 6 months. Just like all the branches, there are some really cool jobs in the Navy and some that aren't as cool. All jobs are important and will give you the feeling of pride and patriotism. You will see many countries, I've heard people say they've seen 35 countries during their Navy enlistment. You will have a secure job with all the benifits you need. Not to mention the G.I. bill which will pay for college for you if you decide to go when you get out of the Navy. With the G.I. Bill and all the money you make/save in the Navy you can move out of your small town if you choose, go to free school and lead a really good life.

My husband is retired Navy. He joined right out of High School and served 23 years. During that time, he served on land & sea, at foreign ports (including several 9-month long West Pac tours) and at domestic ports. All in all, it was a very positive experience for him. He now owns his own business and is very successful at it. |
