Fort polk louisiana. was he crazy!?

was my husband crazy for requesting fort polk for his duty station. his unit was suppose to go to kentucky and my husband didnt want to go there because they were redeploying in 9 months so he requested fort polk because the unit he wanted was a nondeployable unit. as ive been reading..the surrounding city(leesville) is a peice of **** town. that there is nothing around the base. My husband and i decided before his request got granted to go to fort polk we would live off base in a apartment instead of off base. so im wondering was it a huge mistake for him to request this place?

Everything is give and take with the Army. Polk is in the middle of nowhere and the area isn't great...but, he won't be deploying out of there. KY may have had some nicer areas and is a larger post, but he would be gone all the time. Only you guys can decide if it was a good choice or not.

I hope you don't have kids. Louisiana also has an awful education system to boot.

We actually want to go to Fort Polk. I like small town living.

...what I'm trying to understand is why you would care about the location, as long as he will be safe with you. My husband is deploying for the second time shortly and I would live ANYWHERE if it meant he would stay here with our children and me.

People refer to Ft Polk as "God's forgotten acre". Enough said. Good Luck.

I'd rather deploy than go to Fort Polk, but that's just me. We all make our own decisions.
