It might, but it's not 100%. Tell you friend that at BEST he will might likely get an Other Than Honorable Discharge. (OTH) This will mess up his life more than he knows. A dishonorable is even worse.
First of all he will never be hired in ANY type of government job, including digging ditches. This includes any job with a company that has a government contract. And then of course you have your companies that just won't hire you because of it. Remember how difficult it was getting the last job you got? And almost every application asks if you have been in the military and what kind of discharge did you get. The NJP will be an issue also. Your friend is looking only short term. This will have repercussions for the rest of his life. Not to mention the shame, and disrespect of the millions of Americans and veterans in this country.
He also won't qualify for the GI Bill any longer. And any other VA benefits will probably be forfeited.
I would tell him to be the man he signed up to be and finsh his contract. It goes faster than he thinks. |

Probably would get him out but he should think about the long term effects it will have on his life if he gets a bad discharge. |

What a piece of work you and your friend are! You're advising him to do something that'll get him busted, a BCD or worse, and he's whining and doesn't want to man up to his commitment. I hope he follows your dumba** advice then gets what he deserves in triplicate. You're both losers. Once he's out, both of you can spend the rest of your miserable lives working for McDonald's, smoking weed and complaining about how bad the world's been to you. |

Sure. With a General discharge under less than honorable conditions (at best) and a bar against re-enlistment in the Corps or enlistment in any other branch. And I'm sure, if he follows your advice, he will find some suitable way of rewarding you in the future. |

In certain Military Services, smoking weed is a big no no. I have heard that in other services if you smoke weed they will boot you down a paygrade, but not discharge you. It is not a good idea to try to get kicked out by smoking weed, in fact it is not a good idea to get kicked out for anything. Being deemed crazy or getting injured can also inhibit you from getting certain jobs that you may want in the future. |

or how about you tell your friend to grow up and do his duty like a man? Hell I know women who join the marines and they seem to be able to handle it, that does not speak well for your friend.
If he wants to do something so stupid it can potentially ruin his life and ruin most chances at making something of himself then yes by all means tell him to get booted out. the dishonorable discharge he gets will just confirm to every one of his possible employers that he is incapable of being trusted or reliable. It will save them the trouble of finding out later.
Hell tell him to make a pass at his CO that will get him booted too.
Honestly if your friend is such a wimp he cant even handle a commitment he agreed too, then he does not deserve to live a happy normal life and he sure as hell should not have joined the Marines.
Tell him I wish him the best of luck with the rest of his life working in the fast food industry. |
